First Steps on Using OpenMath to Add Proving Capabilities to Standard Dynamic Geometry Systems

2007
A prototype for a web application designed to symbolically process locus, proof and discovery tasks on geometric diagrams created with the commercial dynamic geometry systems Cabri, The Geometer's Sketchpadand Cinderellais presented. The application, named LAD (acronym for Locus-Assertion-Discovery) and thought of as a remote add-onfor the considered ...

Using mean first passage times to quantify equilibrium resilience in perturbed intraguild predation systems

Theoretical Ecology, 2008
Regime shift inducibility depends on equilibrium resilience, which depends on species interactions. When species interactions include intraguild predation (IGP), integrated pest management may induce regime shifts because enhancing the abundance of intraguild predators simultaneously increases competition with, and predation on, invasive prey.

Colorado’s bid to create first single payer system in US faces uphill fight

BMJ, 2016
A measure on the 8 November ballot in Colorado that would create the first single payer healthcare system in the United States faces apparently insurmountable opposition, as polls indicate that about 60% of voters oppose the law and that only about 30% approve.

Using Cognitive Task Analysis to Define Human Interface Requirements for First-of-A-Kind Systems

Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting, 1995
Cognitive task analysis (CTA) methods have grown out of the need to explicitly consider cognitive processing requirements of complex tasks. A number of approaches to CTA have been developed that vary in goals, the tools they bring to bear, and their data requirements.

Improved NPV Using Shallow Water Subsea Systems to Achieve Early First Oil and Reduce CAPEX

OTC Brasil, 2011
Abstract The conventional practice for developing shallow water oil and gas fields is to install a bottom-founded structure over a drill center, then mobilize a jack-up drilling rig for drilling and completion operations.

Emergency management using geographic information systems: application to the first Romanian traveling salesman problem instance

Knowledge and Information Systems, 2016
The strategic design of logistic networks, such as roads, railways or mobile phone networks, is essential for efficiently managing emergency situations. The geographic coordinate systems could be used to produce new traveling salesman problem (TSP) instances with geographic information systems (GIS) features.

Intra- and Intermolecular C−S Bond Formation Using a Single Catalytic System: First Direct Access to Arylthiobenzothiazoles

Organic Letters, 2009
We have for the first time developed two ligand-assisted Cu(I)-catalyzed sequential intra- and intermolecular S-arylations leading to the direct synthesis of arylthiobenzothiazoles in one pot without an inert atmosphere. Low catalyst loading, inexpensive metal catalyst and ligand, lower reaction temperature, and shorter reaction times make this method ...

Monitoring reproductive hormones to detect the fertile period: development of Persona - the first home use system

Advances in Contraception, 1997
Market research has demonstrated womens interest in a contraceptive method that involves no drugs or devices has no side effects and is non-interruptive simple and reliable. A new method based on detection of the fertile period appears to meet these requirements.
