Treatment of Systemic Sclerosis Complications: What to Use When First-Line Treatment Fails—A Consensus of Systemic Sclerosis Experts

Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism, 2012
There is a need for standardization in systemic sclerosis (SSc) management.SSc experts (n = 117) were sent 3 surveys to gain consensus for SSc management.First-line therapy for scleroderma renal crisis (SRC) was an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEi). For SRC there were not many differences between treating mild or severe SRC.

THE USE OF SMALL AXIOM SYSTEMS TO TEACH REASONING TO FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

PRIMUS, 1992
ABSTRACT Small axiom systems are used to teach logic and reasoning to first year students. A collaborative technique is employed in the classroom in order to train students to write formal arguments in a non-intimidating atmosphere. Logic is considered informally rather than symbolically and is applied to small axiom systems.

Using First Nations Systems Thinking to Operationalize Sustainable Development

2015
In the following chapter, a systems thinking approach is described that reflects a Canadian First Nation’s view of sustainable development. This approach is operationalized using a System Dynamics model, called Mini-World, developed by Harmut Bossel.

An exact solution to the stabilization of discrete systems using a first-order controller

IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2005
An exact solution is derived for stabilizing a given but arbitrary, linear time-invariant discrete system by a first-order discrete-time feedback controller, which has received considerable attention in the past few years. An approach has been recently proposed to compute the first-order controllers, given in the form of C(z)=(zx/sub 1/+x/sub 2/)/(z+x ...

First Steps on Using OpenMath to Add Proving Capabilities to Standard Dynamic Geometry Systems

2007
A prototype for a web application designed to symbolically process locus, proof and discovery tasks on geometric diagrams created with the commercial dynamic geometry systems Cabri, The Geometer's Sketchpadand Cinderellais presented. The application, named LAD (acronym for Locus-Assertion-Discovery) and thought of as a remote add-onfor the considered ...

Using mean first passage times to quantify equilibrium resilience in perturbed intraguild predation systems

Theoretical Ecology, 2008
Regime shift inducibility depends on equilibrium resilience, which depends on species interactions. When species interactions include intraguild predation (IGP), integrated pest management may induce regime shifts because enhancing the abundance of intraguild predators simultaneously increases competition with, and predation on, invasive prey.

Colorado’s bid to create first single payer system in US faces uphill fight

BMJ, 2016
A measure on the 8 November ballot in Colorado that would create the first single payer healthcare system in the United States faces apparently insurmountable opposition, as polls indicate that about 60% of voters oppose the law and that only about 30% approve.
