How the health-seeking behaviour of pregnant women affects neonatal outcomes: findings of system dynamics modelling in Pakistan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Limited studies have explored how health-seeking behaviour during pregnancy through to delivery affect neonatal outcomes. We modelled health-seeking behaviour across urban and rural settings in Pakistan, where poor neonatal outcomes persist ...

Hyperandrogenemia Induces Trophoblast Ferroptosis and Early Pregnancy Loss in Patients With PCOS via CMA‐Dependent FTH1 Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In PCOS patients with hyperandrogenemia, decreased ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1) causes Fe2⁺ overload and ferroptosis in trophoblasts. Androgens induce FTH1 protein degradation via AR‐LAMP2A‐mediated chaperone‐mediated autophagy pathway, leading to placental development disruption and early pregnancy loss. Metformin mitigates androgen‐induced placental

First Trimester Vaginal Microbiome as Pregnancy Outcome Predictor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
• We have developed clinical definiKons of healthy and complicated pregnancies based on pathologies that will be used in future VaHMP studies. • Although one study7 found dysbioKc vagitypes in all three semesters of women who had PPROM, none of our PPROM

Dynamics of the Mammalian Placental Metabolome in Placentogenesis and Embryonic Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies three metabolic stages (E8.5, E9.5–10.5, E11.5–14.5) and two transition periods (E8.5–9.5, E10.5–11.5) in mouse placental development. NAD(H) emerges as a key dynamic metabolite that enhances embryonic growth through accelerated segmentation and increased proliferation of mouse embryonic stem cell (mESC)‐induced presomitic ...

Identification of novel first-trimester serum biomarkers for early prediction of preeclampsia

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2023
Background Preeclampsia (PE) is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity worldwide, but effective early prediction remains a challenge due to the lack of reliable biomarkers.

Metabolic Reprogramming Driven by Trophoblasts and Decidual XCR1+PMN‐MDSC Crosstalk Controls Adverse Outcomes Associated With Advanced Maternal Age

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The interaction between trophoblasts and decidual polymorphonuclear myeloid‐derived suppressor cells (dPMN‐MDSCs) via the XCL1–XCR1 axis is crucial for fetal development during the third trimester. Disruption of this axis impairs FOXO1 activity and causes metabolic imbalance in dPMN‐MDSCs, contributing to adverse outcomes associated with advanced ...

Risk of violence from the man involved in the pregnancy after receiving or being denied an abortion. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundIntimate partner violence is common among women having abortions, with between 6% and 22% reporting recent violence from an intimate partner. Concern about violence is a reason some pregnant women decide to terminate their pregnancies.

IGF‐1 Deficiency Serves as an Integrated Biomarker Pathogenic Driver and Predictor in Poor Ovarian Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
IGF‐1 deficiency underlies poor ovarian response (POR), as reduced levels in follicular fluid and granulosa cells impair antral follicle formation and compromise reproductive outcomes. Including IGF‐1 as a biomarker significantly enhances the accuracy of models predicting both PORrisk and pregnancy success.

The Relationship of the First/Third Trimester Hematocrit level with the Birth Weight and Preeclampsia

open access: yesنشریه پرستاری ایران, 2008
Background and Aim: Hematocrit is defined as the relationship between the volume of cells and the volume of blood separated by a centrifuge. Evaluation of hematocrit is one of the routine tests during pregnancy.
