Scavenger communities and fisheries waste : North Sea discards support 3 million seabirds, 2 million fewer than in 1990 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Every year fisheries discard >10 million tonnes of fish. This provides a bounty for scavengers, yet the ecological impact of discarding is understudied.

AI‐Powered Framework for Evaluating Drug Efficacy for Three‐Dimensional In Vitro Cancer Models in Robot‐Assisted Production

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
An AI‐powered, robot‐assisted framework automatically produces, images, and analyzes 3D tumor spheroids to evaluate drug efficacy. Integrated modules handle spheroid formation, live/dead staining, brightfield imaging, and automated image analysis, including spheroid segmentation, viability and metrics to assess the drug treatment efficacy. The workflow

Discard sampling of the Dutch pelagic freezer fishery in 2010

open access: yes, 2011
This report contains the results of the discard sampling programme of the Dutch pelagic freezer trawler fleet in European waters in 2010. The pelagic freezer trawler fishery targets pelagic species, namely herring (Clupea harengus), blue whiting ...

Partial Replacement of Fishmeal with Seafood Discards for Juvenile Penaeus japonicus: Effects on Growth, Flesh Quality, Chemical and Fatty Acid Composition

open access: yesFishes
The present study was designed to assess the influence of fishmeal replacement with increasing percentages of fresh seafood discards (0, 25, 50 and 75%) in diets for Penaeus japonicus on growth performance, physical characteristics and the chemical and ...

Structure of the FindFish Knowledge Transfer Platform

open access: yesArchives of Polish Fisheries, 2018
As consumer awareness increases in Poland, fish consumption is on an upward trend. While new technologies permit meeting increasing demand, they significantly increase the pressure on fish supplies. As a result, many fish stocks are over-exploited, which

Tumbling Magnetic Microrobots for Targeted In Vivo Drug Delivery in the GI Tract

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We introduce a microrobot design and integrated system for on‐demand targeted drug release in the gastrointestinal tract. The microrobot has an embedded magnet for actuation with external magnetic fields and is visualized in real time using ultrasound. It has two drug release ports sealed with a thermally sensitive wax. Local heating of the wax using a

A multilevel approach to understanding fisheries discards in Irish Waters

open access: yes, 2010
No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author.A central challenge in fisheries is to understand the temporal and spatial variability of both fish populations and fishing behaviour in order to recognize relationships and patterns ...

Spatiotemporal Sequential Delivery of Chidamide Regulates Macrophage Reprogramming in Lymphoma Microenvironment Through HDACs‐STAT3 Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study identifies the HDACs‐STAT3 axis as key regulator for M2 macrophage accumulation in DLBCL. We developed Chid@M2pep‐EVs/TP, a pH‐responsive drug delivery system for M2 macrophage specific chidamide administration. By coupling M2‐targeted chidamide with EVs‐mediated delivery, this system reprograms M2 to M1 via HDAC inhibition and STAT3 ...

Detection of Protein–Protein Interactions in Escherichia coli With Single Molecule Sensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This article describes a regulatory circuit in Escherichia coli able to detect protein–protein interactions with exquisite sensitivity. The interaction between two hybrid proteins fused to Bordetella pertussis adenylate cyclase and its activator calmodulin triggers a potent cyclic AMP signaling cascade.
