An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

To examine environmental pollution by economic growth and their impact in an environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) among developed and developing countries.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
This study analyzes the core energy consumption among countries' specific variables by Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis (EKC), for a panel data of 29 (14 developed and 15 developing) countries during the period of 1977-2014.

Natural ITD statistics predict human auditory spatial perception

open access: yeseLife, 2020
A neural code adapted to the statistical structure of sensory cues may optimize perception. We investigated whether interaural time difference (ITD) statistics inherent in natural acoustic scenes are parameters determining spatial discriminability.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Mathematical proof of the Fisher-Escolà Q statistical distribution in quantum consciousness modeling

open access: yesComputational and Structural Biotechnology Journal
Quantum theories have long sought to explain conscious experience, yet their biggest challenge is not conceptual but methodological. A critical gap remains: the lack of statistical tools capable of empirically testing these theories against objective ...

Helicobacter pylori and gastric cancer [PDF]

open access: yesArchive of Oncology, 2003
BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen, because H. pylori infection considerably increases the risk of gastric cancer development. METHODS: The study involved a total of 191 patients divided into two groups. The

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

FISHER HYPOTHESIS–THE ALBANIA CASE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Fisher’s hypothesis is regarded as one of the most important hypothesis in macroeconomics. Fisher (1930) argued that the nominal interest rate consists of an expected ‘real’ rate plus an expected inflation rate and there exist a one-to-one positive ...

Multiple solutions to the likelihood equations in the Behrens-Fisher problem

open access: yes, 2007
The Behrens-Fisher problem concerns testing the equality of the means of two normal populations with possibly different variances. The null hypothesis in this problem induces a statistical model for which the likelihood function may have more than one ...
