Commercial fishing patterns influence odontocete whale-longline interactions in the Southern Ocean

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
The emergence of longline fishing around the world has been concomitant with an increase in depredation-interactions by odontocete whales (removal of fish caught on hooks), resulting in substantial socio-economic and ecological impacts.

Molecular imaging predicts trastuzumab‐deruxtecan (T‐DXd) response in head and neck cancer xenograft models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Trastuzumab‐deruxtecan, a HER2‐targeting antibody‐drug conjugate, shows promising antitumor activity in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma with low HER2 expression. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated dose‐dependent cell death and tumor growth reduction in low HER2‐expressing cell lines, which correlated with drug accumulation measured using a

Environmental Conditions Assessment for the Carp Cultured in Floating Cages on the Irrigation Canals

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
Aquaculture in cages is considered an alternative to fishing in natural waters, by increasing fish production and using new water resources. This production method confers efficiency for fish farming and varies according to the ecological quality of the ...

Why Fishing Vessels Need Mandatory, Unique Identification Numbers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Unlike merchant ships, cars, and even cellphones, industrial fishing vessels are not required to have unique, permanent identifying numbers. Fishing vessels do have names, call signs, and other identifiers, but those can be changed by the owner quickly ...

Fisheries portfolio diversification and turnover buffer Alaskan fishing communities from abrupt resource and market changes

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Abrupt shifts in natural resources and their markets are a ubiquitous challenge to human communities. Building resilient social-ecological systems requires approaches that are robust to uncertainty and to regime shifts.

A nucleotide‐independent, pan‐RAS‐targeted DARPin elicits anti‐tumor activity in a multimodal manner

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We report a Designed Ankyrin Repeat Protein that binds and inhibits RAS proteins, which serve as central cell signaling hubs and are essential for the progression of many cancers. Its unique feature is that it does not discriminate between different RAS isoforms or mutations and is capable of binding to RAS in both its active (GTP‐bound) and inactive ...

FAQ: Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Pressure on the world's fish stocks is at an all-time high, and although most industrial fishing operations are within the law, some take to the seas fully intending to steal fish. But how is illegal fishing defined?

Future scenarios of marine resources and ecosystem conditions in the Eastern Mediterranean under the impacts of fishing, alien species and sea warming

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Using a temporal-dynamic calibrated Ecosim food web model, we assess the effects of future changes on marine resources and ecosystem conditions of the Israeli Mediterranean continental shelf. This region has been intensely invaded by Indo-Pacific species.

Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.
