Water quality, fishing effort and fish yield in lakes
Fisheries Research, 1992The relationship between fish yield, water quality and fishing effort was explored in 70 Finnish lakes. The total yield (kg ha−1 yr−1) was also split to species level (11 species). Fishing effort was estimated by the number of fishermen (fishermen km−2). The principal components of water quality variables were extracted.

1993
It is convenient to distinguish three problems which involve the variation of the fishing mortality coefficient with age. The first (§8.1.1), concerns the effects of the selective action of the meshes of the fishing gear, and of the interaction between this and recruitment to the exploited area.

How commercial fishing effort is managed
Fish and Fisheries, 2018AbstractWild capture fisheries produce 90 million tonnes of food each year and have the potential to provide sustainable livelihoods for nearly 40 million people around the world (http://www.fao.org/3/a-i5555e.pdf). After decades of overfishing since industrialization, many global fish stocks have recovered, a change brought about through effective ...

Impact of wind speed on fishing effort
Modeling Earth Systems and Environment, 2020In this work, we search to show the influence of the wind speed on the annual fishing effort, catches and profit of seiners, and show that these parameters are the most important parameters involved in seiner’s fishing activity. To achieve this objective, we consider a bioeconomic system of marine populations exploited, in the southern Atlantic zone of

Variable effort fishing models in random environments
Mathematical Biosciences, 1999We study the growth of populations in a random environment subjected to variable effort fishing policies. The models used are stochastic differential equations and the environmental fluctuations may either affect an intrinsic growth parameter or be of the additive noise type.

Integrated fish farming: An international effort
American Journal of Alternative Agriculture, 1986AbstractIn much of the developing world, the high cost of purchased feeds makes meat and milk too expensive to be consumed by the producers' own families. A fish pond integrated with livestock or crop production provides an important source of animal protein for home consumption or sale.

Fishing area, effort, and yield
1981The drainage system centering on the Rio Madeira can be divided into three main commercial fishing regions: 1) Beginning upriver, the first is the large area embracing the Rio Beni, Rio Mamore, and Rio Guapore. The Rio Beni lies entirely within Bolivia, while the Rio Mamore and Rio Guapore are shared with Brazil.

Enjoying Catch and Fishing Effort: The Effort Effect in Recreational Fisheries
Environmental and Resource Economics, 2013Recreational fishermen derive utility from catch and fishing effort. Building our analysis on the Gordon-Clark model for renewable resources, we show that a lower importance of catch may result in higher catches. While this effect also holds under first-best management, it may destabilize open-access recreational fisheries to the point of stock ...

Assessing electric fishing sampling effort to estimate stream fish assemblage attributes
Fisheries Management and Ecology, 2012AbstractTheEU WaterFrameworkDirective (WFD) obligates authorities to assess the ecological status of rivers. The sampling of the fish assemblage must be based on a reliable and cost‐effective monitoring programme, and it should be optimised to measure the ecological quality cost‐effectively.
