Variable effort fishing models in random environments

Mathematical Biosciences, 1999
We study the growth of populations in a random environment subjected to variable effort fishing policies. The models used are stochastic differential equations and the environmental fluctuations may either affect an intrinsic growth parameter or be of the additive noise type.

Fishing area, effort, and yield

1981
The drainage system centering on the Rio Madeira can be divided into three main commercial fishing regions: 1) Beginning upriver, the first is the large area embracing the Rio Beni, Rio Mamore, and Rio Guapore. The Rio Beni lies entirely within Bolivia, while the Rio Mamore and Rio Guapore are shared with Brazil.

Enjoying Catch and Fishing Effort: The Effort Effect in Recreational Fisheries

Environmental and Resource Economics, 2013
Recreational fishermen derive utility from catch and fishing effort. Building our analysis on the Gordon-Clark model for renewable resources, we show that a lower importance of catch may result in higher catches. While this effect also holds under first-best management, it may destabilize open-access recreational fisheries to the point of stock ...

Integrated fish farming: An international effort

American Journal of Alternative Agriculture, 1986
AbstractIn much of the developing world, the high cost of purchased feeds makes meat and milk too expensive to be consumed by the producers' own families. A fish pond integrated with livestock or crop production provides an important source of animal protein for home consumption or sale.

Assessing fish sampling effort in studies of Brazilian streams

Scientometrics, 2020
Neotropical stream fish assemblages have attracted much scientific attention in recent decades. However, spatial and temporal patterns in sampling, and the types of methodologies being used in studies, remains unclear. Here, we conducted an in-depth review of the published literature on Brazilian stream fish assemblages, recording where and how these ...

Further Notes on Fishing Mortality and Effort

Copeia, 1944
ECENTLY Dr. Milner B. Schaeffer (1943) has made a contribution to our knowledge concerning the relationship between fishing effort and fish mortality. His results lead him to suggest that parts of the writer's 1940 paper, on the same general topic, stand in need of revision.

Testing the importance of fish stocking as a determinant of the demand for fishing licenses and fishing effort in colorado

Human Dimensions of Wildlife, 1998
Abstract A time‐series regression analysis of data from 1975 to 1995 showed no statistically significant relationship between number of catchable or subcatchable coldwater fish stocked and number of resident and nonresident season licenses sold. Stocking of warmwater subcatchables was a significant determinant of resident season license sales, although

Evaluating Fish Biodiversity and Fishing Effort in the Lidder River, Kashmir

UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY
The study aimed to assess fish diversity and catch per unit effort (CPUE) in the Lidder River, an important tributary of the Jhelum River in Kashmir. Six fish species belonging to Cyprinidae, Sisoridae, Balitoridae, and Salmonidae were identified. Schizothorax plagiostomus, S. esocinus, and S. labiatus represent the family Cyprinidae.; Balitoridaeis is
