Increasing the Reuse Potential of High‐Strength Steels by Extending the Fatigue Life through Surface Treatments

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Surface reconditioning through mechanical and electrochemical polishing is shown to extend the fatigue life of predamaged 42CrMo4 steel by over 12 times. By removing ≈100 μm of surface material, surface‐driven fatigue damage is mitigated. This study introduces a reuse potential metric to evaluate fatigue recovery and support sustainable steel reuse. Hunting, but not outdoor recreation, modulates behavioural tolerance to human disturbance in Alpine marmots Marmota marmota

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Humans are often perceived as predators by free‐living animals, and thus, even non‐consumptive human activities such as outdoor recreation may trigger behavioural and physiological responses, often with negative consequences on individual fitness and population persistence.

Synthetic fibres for fishing gear

open access: yes, 1973
A variety of synthetic fibres are at present in use as fishing gear material, the earliest one being the polyvinyl chloride group introduced for traps in 1936 (von. Brandt 1957). Since then synthetic fibres became increasingly popular among the advanced fishing nations of the world. The latest synthetic fibre which has been successfully used in fishing

Hunting and fishing harvest data collection: a horizon scanning exercise from the French context

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Legal and societal moves increasingly lead leisure hunting and fishing practitioners to record their harvest. The total number of individuals harvested per population per year is the minimum required information to feed into demographic models and allow science‐based management. Some few schemes record more detailed data, hence allowing better‐informed
