The condition of fish escaping from fishing gears—a review

Fisheries Research, 1995
The capture of immature fish in many commercial fisheries is controlled by restricting the use of fishing gears or elements of fishing gears that prevent the escape of immature fish. Improving the selective characteristics of fishing gear is based on the assumption that fish escaping are not seriously damaged and able to make a complete recovery.

Fish behaviour at fisheries by passive fishing gears. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006

Fish Behaviour and Fishing Gear

1986
Throughout history, human hunters for fish have made use of their knowledge of fish behaviour in order to make catches. There are more than 22000 different species of teleost fishes, each with its own characteristic world of reaction and behaviour, so that numerous appropriate fish capture systems have been invented.

Fishing gear selectivity: an overview

Fisheries Research, 1992
Good fisheries management requires that fishing gears should catch the large adult fish while small juveniles are allowed to escape (Armstrong et al., 1990). This implies that the capture efficiency of the gear should change with the age or size of the fish.

Fish/Gear-Space System

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1987
Abstract This study investigates the following problems. The first problem is to describe a model of a set-net as a fish/gear-space system. The second problem is to develop a method for deriving probable swimming paths. Third problem is to evaluate the probable swimming paths. Research was carried out in a water tank using Yamame onchorhynchus masou

Marketing of fishing gear materials and fishing gear making in parts of Kainji Lake basin

2005
The importance of fishing gear in fishing cannot be over-emphasized; as without it fish cannot be obtained. The method used to catch fish affects the condition in which the product is landed. This means that a bad-catching method would produced bad fish to the consumer.
