In this report, a new PICI‐based platform is showcased to detect and identify bacteria. In contrast to other diagnostic approaches, this strategy can additionally distinguish whether the pathogens are alive. PICI‐based infection of target hosts is simple and efficient, allowing us to demonstrate the implementation of the technique in an easy‐to‐use ...

Abstract Light availability drives vertical canopy gradients in photosynthetic functioning and carbon (C) balance, yet patterns of variability in these gradients remain unclear. We measured light availability, photosynthetic CO2 and light response curves, foliar C, nitrogen (N) and pigment concentrations, and the photochemical reflectance index (PRI ...

Abstract The application of demographic history modelling and inference to the study of divergence between species has become a cornerstone of speciation genomics. Speciation histories are usually reconstructed by analysing single populations from each species, assuming that the inferred population history represents the actual speciation history ...

We collected soybean aphids from commercial soybean fields with varying genotypes and phenotypes determined by toxicity bioassays and the presence of nonsynonymous mutations associated with pyrethroid resistance. We used life table analyses to evaluate if fitness costs are associated with pyrethroid‐resistant soybean aphids. © 2022 The Authors.

Abstract Background Both reusable and single‐use gloves can be employed during hand harvesting of lettuce and leafy greens. The impact of glove type on survival and transfer of Escherichia coli was evaluated using agar or lettuce in a laboratory setting and during simulated lettuce harvesting in the field. Results Textured and smooth reusable latex and

We show that modest overfeeding‐mediated weight gain does not alter circulating sex hormones but may increase bioavailable hormone via decreases in sex hormone‐binding globulin (SHBG). Notably, the decreases in SHBG may be partly mediated by changes in leptin.

Abstract Cronartium pini causes economic losses especially on Scots pine in northern Europe. Scots pine reacts to rust infection by resin flow. The chemicals enriched in wood after Cronartium infection have not been investigated before. We investigated resin acids and mono‐ and sesquiterpenes produced in Cronartium‐infected wood.
