Intimal Hyperplasia, Stenosis, and Arteriovenous Fistula Maturation Failure in the Hemodialysis Fistula Maturation Study.

open access: yesJournal of the American Society of Nephrology, 2017
Intimal hyperplasia and stenosis are often cited as causes of arteriovenous fistula maturation failure, but definitive evidence is lacking. We examined the associations among preexisting venous intimal hyperplasia, fistula venous stenosis after creation,

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

A computational study of viscoelastic blood flow in an arteriovenous fistula [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
A finite element analysis of flows of an Oldroyd-B fluid is developed, to simulate blood flow in an arteriovenous fistula. The model uses a combination of a standard conforming finite element approximation for the momentum equation, and the discontinuous Galerkin method, with upwinding, for the equation governing the evolution of the extra stress.

Hypergraphs Demonstrate Anastomoses During Divergent Integration [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Complex networks can be used to analyze structures and systems in the embryo. Not only can we characterize growth and the emergence of form, but also differentiation. The process of differentiation from precursor cell populations to distinct functional tissues is of particular interest.

EFFECTS OF INSULIN, GLUCAGON, AND INSULIN/GLUCAGON INFUSIONS ON LIVER MORPHOLOGY AND CELL DIVISION AFTER COMPLETE PORTACAVAL SHUNT IN DOGS [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
Insulin, glucagon, and insulin/glucagon mixtures have been infused for four days into the left portal vein of dogs after portacaval shunt. In the left but not the right liver lobes, insulin alone reduced atrophy, preserved hepatocyte ultrastructure, and ...

Patency rates of the arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Kidney Diseases, 2014
BACKGROUND Advantages of the arteriovenous fistula (AVF), including long patency and few complications, were ascertained more than 2 decades ago and may not apply to the contemporary dialysis population. STUDY DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis.
