The emergence of group fitness
Evolution, 2022Whether and how selection can act on collectives rather than single entities has been a tumultuous issue in evolutionary biology for decades. Despite examples of multilevel selection, a simple framework is needed that makes explicit the constraints that lead to the emergence of a "group fitness function." We use evolutionary game theory to show that ...

On the fitting length of NC-groups
Geometriae Dedicata, 1991A finite group \(G\) is called an NC-group if, for each prime \(p\), the normalizer and the centralizer of the centre of the Sylow \(p\)-subgroups of \(G\) coincide. Soluble NC-groups with arbitrarily large Fitting length and trivial centre are constructed. Theorem 4 is central to the paper: If \(H\) is a non-identity \(\{p,q\}\)-group such that \(O_ p(

Injectors in fitting sets of finite groups
Mathematical Notes, 2015The summary in the paper has the following text: ``A set of subgroups \(\mathcal F\) of a finite group \(G\) is referred to as a Fitting set if it is closed with respect to taking normal subgroups, products of normal \(\mathcal F\)-subgroups, and inner automorphisms of \(G\). A Fitting set \(\mathcal F\) of a group \(G\) is said to be \(\pi\)-saturated

Journal of Management, 2012
This article explores antecedents and outcomes of group-level person-group (PG) fit perceptions. Based on the categorization-elaboration model (CEM), the authors explain how social category (gender and age) and informational diversity (education and work experience) in work teams may elicit supplementary and complementary fit perceptions among team ...

Too Much Fit with a Group? Person-Group Fit as a Moderator of the Effect of Charismatic Leadership
Academy of Management Proceedings, 2021Drawing on theories of substitutes and contingencies for leadership, we explore how person-group (PG) fit moderates the relationship between charismatic leadership (CL) and task performance via fol...

On the Fitting height of a finite group
Journal of Group Theory, 2010This note contains a slick proof, based on a concept introduced by \textit{A. Turull} [J. Algebra 86, 555-566 (1984; Zbl 0526.20017)] of the following Theorem: A finite group is solvable with Fitting height at most \(h\) if and only if every pair of conjugate elements generates a solvable subgroup whose Fitting height is at most \(h\).

Fitting functors and radicals of finite groups
Siberian Mathematical Journal, 2011If \(\mathfrak X\) is a class of groups, then a map \(f\) that assigns to each group \(G\) of the class \(\mathfrak X\) a nonempty system of its subgroups \(f(G)\) is said to be a subgroup \(\mathfrak X\)-functor if \(\alpha(f(G))=f(\alpha(G))\) for every isomorphism \(\alpha\) of \(G\).

Cardiovascular fitness in a selected group of dentists
The Journal of Sports Medicine, 1975Thirty-three dentists were studied as part of an exercise rehabititation clinic in order to evaluate their cardiovascular capacity and coronary prone risk factors Measure ments were made of their physical work capacity, predicted maximal oxygen up take, fatness, serum lipids and uric acid levels, pulmonary peak flow rates and personality Type A or B ...

Personnel Psychology, 2018
AbstractDespite the wide use of groups in organizations, research on individuals’ experiences of fit in their work groups has lagged due to lack of conceptual clarity of person–group (PG) fit and inconsistent measurement. To rectify these issues, we present an integrative definition of PG fit, which incorporates social‐ and task‐related elements of ...
