Design of a five-phase induction motor using flux distribution optimisation
3rd IET International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2006), 2006The design of a five-phase induction motor stator by finite element analysis is discussed. Stator slot dimensioning to ensure optimised flux distribution with respect to five-phase winding systems is presented. The motor is constructed and tested to demonstrate conformance of the practical motor with the FEA model.

Five-phase induction motor behaviour under faulted conditions
2008 Annual IEEE India Conference, 2008In this paper, simple phase variable model of a five-phase induction motor drive is presented. The model is implemented using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. A number of electrical faults which are common in inverter fed drives are created. The faults considered are open circuit faults in one phase and two phases.

Model predictive current control of a five-phase induction motor
IECON 2011 - 37th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2011Model predictive control (MPC) of a multiphase induction motor drive is elaborated. A vector controlled, inverter fed five-phase induction motor is chosen as the platform for verification of the developed algorithm. Indirect rotor field oriented control (IRFOC) is implemented using MPC algorithm for current control, with the idea of achieving fast ...

Fault Detection Algorithm for Five-Phase Induction Motor Drive
2019 Applications of Electromagnetics in Modern Engineering and Medicine (PTZE), 2019The paper presents the operation possibility of a five-phase induction motor drive for healthy conditions, and for open phase faults. This includes the investigation of the mechanical torque and current characteristics of the machine during the healthy and fault operation.

Predictive Torque Control for five-phase induction motor drives
IECON 2010 - 36th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2010Multiphase electric drives have been recently proposed for applications where the highest overall system reliability, combined with a reduction in the total power per phase, are required. Strategies like Field Oriented Control (FOC) and Direct Torque Control (DTC) have been traditionally used in these high performance applications.

Five-Phase Induction Motor Drive Operation During Stator Phase Fault
AUTOMATYKA, ELEKTRYKA, ZAKLOCENIA, 2017The article presents the most important advantages of multi-phase electric drives. The construction of a five-phase squirrel cage induction motor together with possible stator winding distribution cases is presented, which affect the properties of such motor. Increased reliability of five-phase drives was indicated.

Assessing Variable Sampling Time Controllers for Five-Phase Induction Motor Drives
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2020Finite control set predictive controllers perform a direct digital control of power converters without a modulation stage such as pulsewidth modulation. Opposed to the inherent positive traits such as high flexibility and enhanced bandwidth, an increase in harmonic content is usually reported.

A comprehensive fault analysis of a five-phase induction motor drive with an open phase
2012 15th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (EPE/PEMC), 2012Multiphase machines offer a set of advantages compared to their three-phase counterparts, but maybe the most attractive one is the fault-tolerance capability when some phases are opened. Post-fault situation has been analyzed showing that the ripple-free operation is possible if the reference currents are modified to generate a smoothly rotating ...

Five phase induction motor: Phase transposition effect with different stator winding connections
IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2016This study investigates the effect of phase transposition on the performance of the five-phase induction machine with different stator connections, namely, star, pentagon, and pentacle. The possibility of phase transposition for the five-phase machine can be calculated from the permutations of the number of phases, which yields 120 possible sequences ...

Performance analysis of a five phase induction motor under unbalanced voltage supply
10th International Multi-Conferences on Systems, Signals & Devices 2013 (SSD13), 2013Multi-phase (more than three-phase) systems have attracted much attention in the recent past both for power transmission and electric drives applications. The supply from the grid is prone to unbalance and also the winding structure may have some inherent unbalance. Multi-phase systems are more sensitive to such unbalance supply conditions.
