Assessment of the genetic diversity of Plasmodium falciparum in 110 Colombian isolates revealed that nearly all the parasites in the 97 isolates collected in endemic regions west of the Andes shared the same Pfmsp1 block 2 MAD20-type allelic variant, despite showing high diversity for other genetical markers.

An integral model of the evolution of a Mendelian one-locus population of diploid organisms with continual allele diversity developing under density-limiting conditions or without density limitation has been proposed and analyzed. The model was used to study the mechanism of the appearance of discrete genetic structures, i.e., the fixation of a limited

To date, empirical studies on levels of genetic diversity in highly isolated populations of lithophytic orchids are few. We investigated levels of allozyme diversity and spatial distribution of genotypes in small, isolated populations of the endangered, self-compatible lithophyte Amitostigma gracile from southern Korea.

In Japanese Chionographis, populations are either hermaphroditic or gynodioecious, and diploid or tetraploid. The average level of inbreeding was compared among these populations by estimating Wright's fixation index. The estimates were significant in all gynodioecious populations irrespective of ploidy level, and hermaphrodites in gynodioecious ...
