Evaluation of Orthodontic Retention Protocols and Their Impact on Treatment Stability: Insights from a Tertiary Care Study

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Context: The goals of orthodontic therapy are to provide stable treatment results and the best possible tooth alignment. Orthodontic retention regimens are essential for avoiding relapses after treatment; however, there is ongoing discussion on the best ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Orthodontic Fixed Retainer and Unwanted Movements of Lower Anterior Teeth: A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Dentistry, 2022
The use of fixed retainers at the end of an orthodontic treatment has become a standard practice. Nonetheless, orthodontic relapse can still occur, requiring retreatment in the most severe cases.

Long-term survival and success of resin-bonded fixed partial dentures with hybrid versus conventional retainers.

open access: yesThe Journal of prosthetic dentistry (Print)
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Hybrid resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) may be considered for single-tooth edentulous spaces as part of a defect-oriented, minimally invasive treatment approach, though clinical data, especially concerning observation ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Impact of bonding protocols and physical-mechanical properties of composite on durability and failure rate of fixed orthodontic retainers: a systematic review of laboratory studies

open access: yesBMC Oral Health
Adhesive failure is the most common complication in fixed orthodontic retention. Understanding the mechanical properties of composites used in bonding fixed retainers and finding proper bonding protocols are essential to achieve proper durability of the ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

A bonding technique for fixed maxillary retainers

open access: yes, 2012
Maintaining incisor alignment is an important goal of orthodontic retention and can only be guaranteed by placement of an intact, passive and permanent fixed retainer.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Evaluation of the Biomechanical Properties of Austenitic Stainless Steel Fixed Retainers

open access: yesRevista de Chimie, 2020
The insertion of the fixed retention is an important stage of the orthodontic treatment after fixed appliances. The fixed retainers used in orthodontic treatments must be passive towards teeth, without developing any stress.
