Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Survival analysis of orthodontic retainers
Objective Retainers play a critical role in the long-term success of orthodontic treatment. The aims of this study were to evaluate the survival time of different retainers and to investigate the potential predictors of the retainer failures.

Background/Purpose Fixed lingual retainers (FLRs) often experience structural instability, including poor adaptation, and the untwisting of spiral wires, which can lead to unwanted tooth movement. Digital workflows have enhanced the appliance's accuracy.

Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

To date, no study has compared the effects of CAD/CAM versus flexible multistrand wire (FMS) retainers in the presence/absence of root resorption and/or alveolar crestal bone resorption on the anterior mandibular teeth’s stresses/displacements. Therefore,

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Comparison between Flexible Spiral and Ribbon Flat Wires Used in Fixed Lingual Retainers: A Randomized Clinical Trial [PDF]
Aim: Relapse of mandibular anterior crowding remains a common post-orthodontic challenge regardless of treatment technique. Fixed lingual retainers, which minimize the need for patient compliance, are considered effective in maintaining alignment ...
