Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Heavy Flavor Production in Fixed-Target Experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
This presentation is a review of recent measurements on charm production at fixed-target experiments. The measurements are relevant to a number of basic physics issues: tests of perturbative QCD, fragmentation, and basic hadronic structure.

Review of CERN beam instrumentation for fixed target experiments

open access: yes, 2023
Measuring beam parameters in the vicinity of fixed target experiments or interceptive devices like beam dumps is essential to ensure efficient fixed target physics and safe beam operation.

A fresh look at ALP searches in fixed target experiments

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2019
A significant number of high power proton beams are available or will go online in the near future. This provides exciting opportunities for new fixed target experiments and the search for new physics in particular.

Shadowing of the gluon in fixed target experiments

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 1992
Abstract The errors made in theoretical approximations comparing the ratio of cross sections directly with the ratio of structure functions for two (nuclear) targets are examined in a reliable model for the nuclear distortion of parton structure functions.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Transverse polarization measurement of Λ hyperons in pNe collisions at s NN $$ \sqrt{{\textrm{s}}_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 68.4 GeV with the LHCb detector

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
A measurement of the transverse polarization of the Λ and Λ ¯ $$ \overline{\varLambda} $$ hyperons in pNe fixed-target collisions at s NN $$ \sqrt{{\textrm{s}}_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 68.4 GeV is presented using data collected by the LHCb detector.

The fixed-target experiment at STAR

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2016
The RHIC Beam Energy Scan (BES-I) program, which covers center-of-mass energies 7.7 GeV to 39 GeV, was proposed to look for the turn-off of signatures of the quark gluon plasma, search for a possible QCD critical point, and study the nature of the phase transition between hadronic and partonic matter. RHIC BES-I has shown that the partonic interactions

Sub-GeV dark matter production at fixed-target experiments [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2020
We analyze the sensitivity of fixed-target experiments to sub-GeV thermal relic dark matter models, accounting for variations in both mediator and dark matter mass, and including dark matter production through both on- and off-shell mediators. It is commonly thought that the sensitivity of such experiments is predicated on the existence of an on-shell ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
