Flagellin as a vaccine adjuvant

open access: yesExpert Review of Vaccines, 2018
Bacterial flagellin, as a pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP), can activate both innate and adaptive immunity. Its unique structural characteristics endow an effective and flexible adjuvant activity, which allow the design of different types of vaccine strategies to prevent various diseases.

Structural organization of flagellin

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1990
The terminal regions of flagellin from Salmonella typhimurium have been reported to be disordered in solution, whereas the central part of the molecule contains protease-resistant, compact structural units. Here, conformational properties of flagellin and its proteolytic fragments were investigated and compared to characterize the domain organization ...

Multidomain of flagellin

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1984
Scanning microcalorimetric and circular dichroism studies of the normal and mutant flagellins of Salmonella suggest that they have a multidomain structure in common. Flagellin polymers (flagella) are depolymerized irreversibly into monomers as the temperature is raised, and the monomers undergo denaturation reversibly when cooled and heated again.

Flagellin maintains eosinophils in the intestine

Cytokine, 2022
Eosinophils (Eos) are the major effector cells in allergic response. The regulation of Eo is not fully understood yet. Flagellin (FGN) has immune regulatory functions. This study aims to elucidate the role of FGN in maintaining Eo at the static status in the intestinal tissues. A mouse food allergy (FA) model was developed.

Sequential polymerization of flagellin A and flagellin B into Caulobacter flagella

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1981
The mode of polymerization of two species of flagellins, flagellin A and flagellin B, in polar flagella of Caulobacter crescentus was examined. By immunological staining we found that 1 to 1.2 μm of the portion of the flagellar filament proximal to the cell was composed of flagellin B, whereas about 5 μm of the distal portion was composed of flagellin ...

Purification of Native Flagellin

2019
Flagella are effective organelles of locomotion and one of several virulence factors in Proteus mirabilis. To study their properties and role in virulence, we describe a protocol to extract and purify the native flagellin of P. mirabilis. Purified flagellin can be visualized by SDS-PAGE or immunoblot and is suitable for downstream applications such as ...
