Dynamic analysis of oscillating flames

2009
Abstract Turbulent diffusion flames are inherently complex due to the coupling of highly nonlinear chemical kinetics and turbulence. In order to understand this interdependency of transport and kinetic mechanisms, acoustically forced flames are useful because they exhibit a larger range of combustion conditions than those observed in steady flames. Flame Leading Edge and Flow Dynamics in a Swirling, Lifted Flame

Volume 2: Combustion, Fuels and Emissions, Parts A and B, 2012
Flames in high swirl flow fields with vortex breakdown often stabilize aerodynamically in front of interior flow stagnation points. In contrast to shear layer stabilized flames with a nearly fixed, well defined flame attachment point, the leading edge of aerodynamically stabilized flames can move around substantially, due to both the inherent dynamics ...

On the intrinsic dynamics of premixed flames

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Physical and Engineering Sciences, 1990
Abstract A brief account of the structure and dynamics of freely propagating premixed gas flames in the regime of spontaneous flame instability is given. Recent theoretical studies providing a reduction of the pertinent free-boundary problem to a single evolution equation for the flame interface are discussed.

Dynamics and stability of premixed flames

Physics Reports, 2000
Abstract The latest achievements in the theory of premixed flames including both the analytical theory and the numerical simulations are reviewed. Gas dynamics of curved flames and flame-induced flows as well as flames propagating under confinement in closed burning chambers is considered.

On and the dynamics of turbulent diffusion flames

Fire Safety Journal, 1998
Abstract A dimensionless scaling parameter originally derived by Zukoski from analysis of non-reacting turbulent plumes, Q∗, has been applied extensively and successfully in the literature to correlate heights of turbulent diffusion flames. However, from new flame height measurements at laboratory temperature and substantially above and below ...

The Complex Dynamics of Wrinkled Flames

1990
We summarize recent analytical attempts to understand the dynamics of hydrodynamically unstable, hence wrinkled, premixed flames. Exact solutions to qualitatively correct, non-linear evolution equations are displayed, and used as a basis to study the role of large scale geometry in the local flame dynamics.
