An examination of flame length data from vertical turbulent diffusion flames
Combustion and Flame, 1993Abstract Literature data on the length of turbulent diffusion flames is examined for the buoyancy through momentum dominated regimes. This data is interpreted through an ad hoc dimensional analysis where the length scale is the Thring-Newby theoretical lateral flame dimension.

Measurement of flame lengths under ceilings
Fire Safety Journal, 1989Abstract Measurements of luminous flame extensions beneath ceilings under steady burning conditions are presented. Tests were conducted using both axisymmetric and corner-wall-ceiling configurations for a range of energy supply rates up to 400 kW and burner-to-ceiling heights up to 2·3 m.

Studies on Combustion Characteristics and Flame Length of Turbulent Oxy−Fuel Flames
Energy & Fuels, 2007Combustion characteristics, flame structure, and length in an oxy-fuel combustor have been experimentally investigated for a wide range of fuel nozzle diameters and fuel and oxidizer velocities. Measurements are made for the model combustor (Combustor I) as well as for the actual oxy-fuel combustor (Combustor II). The experimental results for Combustor

Flame length in the wake of a burning hydrocarbon drop
Combustion and Flame, 1974Abstract The flame in the wake of a hydrocarbon droplet is described by a model which combines recent experimental evidence on a large simulated droplet and the early concepts of Wohl et al. [10] on laminar diffusion flames. The model accounts for simultaneous diffusive combustion, premixed combustion, and pyrolysis in the near wake and for burning ...

Flame Length Measurements of Burning Fuel Puffs
Combustion Science and Technology, 1993Abstract An experimental study of burning of natural gas puffs generated by a fully modulated jet, has been conducted. The present study concentrated on the effects of duty-cycle and puff volume, or equivalently the injection time, on the flame length. It is observed that when individual puffs are well-separated, considerably shorter flame lengths, by ...

On the Scaling of the Visible Lengths of Jet Diffusion Flames
Journal of Energy Resources Technology, 1996Length of jet diffusion flames is of direct importance in many industrial processes and is analyzed by applying scaling method directly to the governing partial differential equations. It is shown that for jet-momentum-dominated diffusion flames, when the buoyancy effects are neglected, the flame length normalized by the burner exit diameter increases ...
