Scaling the flame transfer function of confined premixed conical flames
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2013Abstract The influence of confinement side walls on the response of premixed conical flames submitted to velocity disturbances is investigated experimentally and theoretically. When the flame is sufficiently confined, the burnt gases cannot fully expand at the nozzle outlet.

Experimental analysis of nonlinear flame transfer functions for different flame geometries
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2009Abstract Nonlinear features of flame dynamics are characterized by measuring the flame transfer functions for different input levels. This provides a family of gain and phase curves, which constitute the Flame Describing Functions (FDF) and can be used to analyze self-sustained combustion oscillations.

Modeling tools for the prediction of premixed flame transfer functions
The response of flames to incident perturbations is of central interest in combustion dynamics analysis. The problem can be described in the linear regime by a transfer function. It is shown in this article that the description of the perturbed velocity field incident on the flame front is of crucial importance when dealing with the flame transfer ...

Thermo Acoustic Flame Transfer Function Prediction for Turbulent Non-Premixed Syngas Flames
The thermo-acoustic behaviour of non-premixed turbulent syngas flames is investigated by means of transient RaNS Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations. Three cases with two different fuel compositions are considered. Both fuels are combusted in a turbulent non-premixed swirl stabilised mode, and are mixtures of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and nitrogen.

This paper investigates a predictive model that considers the impact of stretch on the dynamic response of laminar premixed conical and V- flames; the flame stretch consists of two components: the flame curvature and flow strain. The steady and perturbed

Impact of flame-wall interaction on premixed flame dynamics and transfer function characteristics
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2011Abstract In this paper, we numerically investigate the response of a perforated-plate stabilized laminar methane–air premixed flame to imposed inlet velocity perturbations. A flame model using detailed chemical kinetics mechanism is applied and heat exchange between the burner plate and the gas mixture is incorporated.

Theoretical and experimental determinations of the transfer function of a laminar premixed flame
The dynamical behavior of laminar premixed flames is investigated in this article. The flame response to incident perturbations is characterized with a transfer function relating the flow velocity modulations and the heat release fluctuations. This function is obtained using the assumptions introduced in previous studies by Fleifil et al., but the ...
