Predicting NO Formation with Flamelet Generated Manifolds
2009With the increasing tightness of emission limits, models for pollutant formation become more and more important. Steady flamelet models have proven to be very efficient methods to model combustion. However, formation of nitrogen oxide and soot are relatively slow chemical processes, which cannot be assumed in quasi-steady state and therefore need ...

In this paper the effectiveness of LES for modeling premixed methane combustion will be investigated in the context of gas turbine modeling. The required reduction of the chemistry is provided by the flamelet generated manifold (FGM) approach of van Oijen (2002).

A numerical study of confined triple flames using a flamelet-generated manifold
Combustion Theory and Modelling, 2004Laminar triple flames are investigated numerically by using detailed and reduced chemical reaction mechanisms. Triple flames are believed to play an essential role in flame propagation in partially premixed systems. In order to reduce the computational cost of the simulations, the flamelet-generated manifold (FGM) method is used to simplify the ...

Modeling MILD combustion with flamelet-generated manifolds
2019MILD combustion has the potential to deliver high thermal efficiency with low levels of pollutant emission. In MILD combustion systems a high degree of preheating of the reactants is coupled with a high degree of dilution. Since the temperature of the reactants is above the self-ignition temperature, a complex interplay between turbulent mixing ...

Strategies for presumed PDF modeling for LES with premixed flamelet-generated manifolds
Journal of Turbulence, 2010Large Eddy Simulation is applied to a non-premixed bluff-body stabilized swirled methane-air flame of the Sydney flame series. The combustion chemistry is included via the so-called premixed flamelet-generated manifolds, being a progress variable approach based on steady premixed laminar flamelets.

An Assessment of Flamelet Generated Manifold Combustion Model for Predicting Combustor Performance
Volume 4A: Combustion, Fuels and Emissions, 2015In Rich-Quench-Lean design of aircraft gas turbine combustors, primary zone mixing is critical for emissions, flame shape, and heat transfer. From a modeling perspective, the primary zone flow prediction is largely impacted by the fidelity of the mixing model and the type of combustion model used.

Flamelet Generated Manifold Strategies in Modeling of an Igniting Diesel Spray
2009A study is presented on the modeling of fuel spray combustion in diesel engines. The objective is to model igniting diesel sprays with the detailed chemistry tabulation method FGM (Flamelet GeneratedManifold). The emphasis is on the accurate prediction of auto-ignition as well as the steady combustion phase using one consistent approach.
