Numerical Investigation of a Lifted Flame With Nonequilibrium Scalar Variance and Dissipation Rate Closure Model for Flamelet Generated Manifold

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering
Large eddy simulation (LES) of a turbulent lifted ethylene/nitrogen jet flame in highly-heated coflow is presented. Turbulent combustion modeling is performed by using the flamelet generated manifold (FGM) approach and presumed probability density ...

Flame Aerosol Synthesis of Metal Sulfides at High Temperature in Oxygen‐Lean Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 35, Issue 28, July 13, 2023., 2023
As proof‐of‐principle, the preparation of various metal sulfides in a flame process using single‐droplet combustion and enclosed flame spray pyrolysis in O2‐lean condition is demonstrated. Using a large‐tube reactor MnS, CoS, Cu2S, ZnS, Ag2S, In2S3, SnS, and Bi2S3 are formed at a rate of 5 g h−1.

Dynamics of Thermoacoustic Oscillations in Swirl Stabilized Combustor without and with Porous Inert Media

open access: yesJournal of Combustion, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Lean premixed (LPM) combustion processes are of increased interest to the gas turbine industry due to their reduction in harmful emissions. These processes are susceptible to thermoacoustic instabilities, which are produced when energy added by an in‐phase relationship between unsteady heat release and acoustic pressure is greater than energy ...

Numerical Investigation on Flame Stabilization of Cavity‐Based Scramjet Combustor Using Compressible Modified FGM Model

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
The technology of flame stabilization on cavity‐based scramjet combustor has great significance in the field of future spacecraft. In this paper, a compressible modified FGM model was established based on the idea of the flamelet model, which was adopted to simulate the unsteady combustion process of the hydrogen transverse jet in the upper cavity of ...

Minimal Curvature Trajectories: Riemannian Geometry Concepts for Model Reduction in Chemical Kinetics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In dissipative ordinary differential equation systems different time scales cause anisotropic phase volume contraction along solution trajectories. Model reduction methods exploit this for simplifying chemical kinetics via a time scale separation into ...
