Non-linear unsteady aerodynamic model for insect-like flapping wings in the hover. Part 1: Methodology and analysis [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2006
The essence of this two-part paper is the analytical, aerodynamic modelling of insect-like flapping wings in the hover for microair vehicle applications.

A parametric study of flapping wing performance using a robotic flapping wing

2009 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2009
Flapping wings have the potential to revolutionize the field of Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs), however the effect of flapping motion on the performance of such wings has not been studied in detail. This paper presents a parametric study of flapping wing propulsion, using two types of passive flapping wings and three flapping motions. Each combination of

Wing Analysis of Bionic Flapping-Wing Flying Robots

2023 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC), 2023
Flapping-wing flying robots, as a newly emerging research hotspot, have attracted more and more researchers' attention. Compared with traditional aircraft, flapping-wing flying robots have the characteristics of high flight efficiency, good concealment, and have a wide range of application prospects.

Optimization Design of Flapping Mechanism and Wings for Flapping-Wing MAVs

2008
In this paper, a lightweight flapping-wing MAV (micro air vehicle) was built which can successfully fly in the sky. However, this flying MAV often pitches toward left or right and crashes during flight. It is mainly caused by the incomplete symmetry of the wings' movement.
