Flash Flood Assessment for Wadi Mousa City-Jordan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper aims to assess risks due to potential Flash Floods hazards in Wadi Mousa and to determine the magnitude of flows for flash flood hazards and construct Floodplain Zone maps for the selected flood return periods of 25, 50, 75 and 100 years. Wadi

Clinical Validation of Artificial Intelligence (AI)‐based Cartilage Segmentation Predicting Knee Replacement

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective For cartilage morphology to serve as a scalable endpoint in clinical trials, analyses should be performed automatically without human interaction. To clinically validate artificial intelligence (AI)‐based analysis, we studied cartilage loss from MRI prior to knee replacement.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Entropy‐Driven Design of Low‐Melting‐Point Alloys via Compositionally Complex Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Conventional low‐melting‐point alloys (LMPAs) are limited by a narrow compositional space and inherent property trade‐offs. This review presents an entropy‐driven design strategy that overcomes these limitations, ushering in a new class of low‐melting‐point compositionally complex alloys (LMCCAs).

The Green Flash [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1915
MANY descriptions of the green flash have been published in letters to NATURE and elsewhere, but I do not remember to have seen a satisfactory explanation of this curious phenomenon. Atmospheric dispersion is invoked, but this does not explain the absence of the red end of the spectrum.
