Enhanced flexural strength of pre-densified ZrO2 ceramics by a facile method of flash treatment

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Traditional methods for strengthening ceramics rely on reasonable strategies implemented in material preparation and/or sintering process, but few of them can improve the strength of a pre-densified ceramic.

Thermally-insulated flash sintering

open access: yesScripta Materialia, 2019
Abstract The use of thermal insulation in flash sintering is proposed in this work. The results show that during conventional flash processes heat losses by radiation accounts for ~90% of the total energy input. Apart from being energy inefficient, heat losses have a negative effect on sample homogeneity.

Onset of selective laser flash sintering in 8YSZ

open access: yes, 2021
Flash sintering of ceramics is distinguished by rapid sintering during simultaneous application of electric field and heat. Previous studies of flash sintering have been conducted in furnace environments, where sample temperatures are approximately ...

Study of deformation mechanisms in flash-sintered yttria-stabilized zirconia by in-situ micromechanical testing at elevated temperatures

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2019
Flash sintering has received wide attention lately due to its ultrafast densification process at low sintering temperature. However, the deformability of flash-sintered ceramics remains poorly understood. Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) was processed by

Flash spark plasma sintering of pure TiB2

open access: yesOpen Ceramics, 2021
Flash Spark Plasma Sintering (FSPS) was used to rapidly sinter pure titanium diboride (TiB2). A pre-sintered sample (Ø = 20 mm with relative density 60%) was crossed under a current of 2–2.5 kA flowing entirely across the sample.

The onset mechanism of flash sintering in Al2O3–8YSZ composites

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
Understanding the onset mechanism of flash sintering is essential for advancing electric-field-assisted sintering technologies. Herein, the onset temperature of flash sintering (FS) was examined for alumina–8 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia (Al2O3–8YSZ ...

Fabrication and electrical characteristics of flash-sintered SiO2-doped ZnO-Bi2O3-MnO2 varistors

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics, 2020
The dense ZnO-Bi2O3-MnO2-xSiO2 (ZBMS) varistors for x = 0, 1, 2, 3 wt% were fabricated by flash sintering method under the low temperature of 850 °C within 2 min. The sample temperature was estimated by a black body radiation model in the flash sintering

Photonic Sintering of Oxide Ceramic Films: Effect of Colored FexOy Nanoparticle Pigments

open access: yesCeramics, 2022
Alumina and zirconia thin films modified with colored nano-FexOy pigments were sintered by the flash-lamp-annealing method. We selected a nano α-Al2O3 and micron α-Al2O3 bimodal mixture as the base precursor material, and we doped it with 5 vol% of FexOy

Initial stage selective laser flash sintering of aluminum nitride [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Flash sintering is a form of sintering where electric fields are combined with heating to reduce the time and temperature required to densify ceramic powder compacts.
