Heat transfer system safety: Comparing the effectiveness of batch venting and a light-ends removal kit (LERK)

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2014
Heat transfer fluids (HTF) should be analysed at least once per year to determine the extent of thermal degradation. Under normal operating conditions, mineral-based HTFs will thermally degrade and the bonds between hydrocarbons break to form shorter ...

Temperature distribution of LiCl droplets in vacuum flash evaporation

open access: yes, 2014
The variations in temperature distribution of LiCl droplet, as a typical dehumidification solution, in vacuum flash-evaporation were theoretically modeled, empirically approximated, and experimentally analyzed to improve its recycling efficiency.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

On the flash temperature in sliding contacts

open access: yes
The temperature increase in the contact regions between solids in sliding contact can easily reach several hundred Kelvin and thereby dramatically affect friction and wear. The classical theories by Jaeger, Archard, and Greenwood, commonly used to estimate flash temperature, ignore the multiscale nature of real surfaces and instead approximate the ...

Self‐Sintering Ionogel Binder for Flexible, Recyclable, and Healable Printed Giant Magnetoresistive Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Electronic waste has emerged as a major environmental challenge, driven by the massive consumption and a limited lifetime of modern electronic devices, stimulating the development of sustainable electronics. Here, an all‐biomaterial gelatin‐choline‐citric acid ([Ch][CA]) ionogel is developed as an active binder to realize self‐sintered ...

Study of deformation mechanisms in flash-sintered yttria-stabilized zirconia by in-situ micromechanical testing at elevated temperatures

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2019
Flash sintering has received wide attention lately due to its ultrafast densification process at low sintering temperature. However, the deformability of flash-sintered ceramics remains poorly understood. Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) was processed by

Unlocking Multi‐Valley Energy Pockets and Interface‐Induced Phonon Filtering in InSb Thermoelectrics by Reaction‐Driven Interface Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
InSb, a narrow‐bandgap semiconductor with high carrier mobility, is promising for thermoelectric energy conversion but suffers from high lattice thermal conductivity and strong bipolar conduction. Here, in situ interface engineering using Co2O3 nanoprecursors forms hierarchical CoSbx/In2O3/CoSb3 heterostructures that enhance phonon scattering and ...

Research on Calculation and Optimization Methods for Tooth Flash Temperature and Meshing Power Loss of the Gear System in Drum Shearer

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The operating conditions of the drum shearer are very complex, and its ranging arm gear system often suffers from gear scuffing and wear. Gear scuffing is caused by the adhesive wear, which is due to the instantaneous friction and flash temperature of ...

The impact of light pollution on flash rate and duration of Pteroptyx bearni (Coleoptera : Lampyridae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Fireflies from family Lampyridae (Order: Coleoptera) uses light for mating, as a defence mechanism or to prey others. They emit light via their light organ and only started to flash during the night.
