Flashover: A Study of Parameter Effects on the Time to Reach Flashover Conditions
Volume 5: 17th Computers in Engineering Conference, 1997Abstract Flashover is characterized by the rapid transition in fire behavior from localized burning of fuel to the involvement of all combustibles in the enclosure. The objective of the present contribution is to calculate the development of flashover in a typical single room fire, and show the effect of ten key parameters on the time ...

Time to flashover characteristics and flashover mechanisms of a liquid film
Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1980, 1980The origin of the phenomenon under study is the problem of flashover of high voltage polluted insulators,1 where a discharge elongates at the surface of a conducting film created by pollution deposition and humidification. The process ends up in a complete short circuit of the insulator.

Aerial flashover caused by surface flashover generated from microscopic pores of insulating solid
Electrical Engineering in Japan, 2009AbstractThis paper studies the possibility of an aerial flashover between a coil conductor and the casing in a rotating machine at voltages below Paschen's voltage even when sufficient insulation distance has been provided. It might be considered that partial surface flashover generated from microscopic pores of a solid insulator generates the aerial ...

Flashovers on transmission lines
Electrical Engineering, 1936This paper is intended to be of practical use to transmission line engineers in that it shows how transmission line flashovers may be estimated and segregated into 1, 2, and 3 phase, and double circuit, flashovers. The method of calculation is comparatively simple and based upon analyses of statistical and analytical information.

The main objective of the present study is to further our understanding of the influence of ambient temperature, freezing water conductivity and nature of applied voltage on the surface flashover of ice. Flashover tests were carried out using two metallic hemispherical capped rods 12 mm in diameter, separated by an ice surface. The distance between the

2013 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2013
Atmospheric ice accretion, combined with pollution, has been identified as a significant risk factor in the reliability of line and station insulators in cold climate regions. Flashovers occurring on ice- and snow-covered insulators result from combinations of a number of factors.

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1968
This paper presents a review of published work on flashover, mainly of Russian, German and American origin. The information obtained from these sources, combined with supporting experimental work, enables a comprehensive explanation of the phenomena to be given. A list of running conditions for which flashover has been reported is given.

Flashover surface spectrometry
Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1972, 1972A bakeable, ultrahigh vacuum, time-of-flight mass spectrometer has been constructed in order to investigate, for the first time, the nature of the ion species formed prior to the flashover of a parallel plate diode.1 During operation, the field in the gap of the diode is maintained approximately 5% below that required for visible flashover.

Parallel Multigap Flashover Probability
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1969This study aims to make clear the air-gap flashover probabilities for positive long-front impulse voltages, especially in the extremely small probability domain, by using the flashover characteristics of the parallel multigap, which consists of 20 3- meter rod-rod gap pairs.

Vacuum, 1977
It is shown that vacuum flashover is due to one or another process alternatively: (a) a thermal breakdown in the thin pre-surface layer of dielectric and (b) a streamer discharge in the desorbed gas cloud. The thermal flashover is observed in dielectrics with ρ v ≤ 10 11 -10 12 Ω cm under dc voltage.
