Polluted insulator flashover model for ac voltage

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 1995
Considerable theoretical and experimental research on polluted insulators has yet to yield a perfect generalized mathematical model which can predict accurately critical flashover voltages and currents. In this paper an ac model has been proposed especially applicable to static arcs.

Effect of altitude on the flashover voltage of contaminated insulators

Proceedings of Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena - CEIDP '96, 2002
Contamination flashover of insulators depends not only on the severity and type of contamination, but also on the altitude at which these insulators are situated. Reduced pressure or air density combined with light contamination at high altitudes decreases the flashover voltage. Experimental testing of a number of insulators for a wide range of outdoor

Experiment of laser-triggered flashover in pulsed voltage

2009 IEEE Pulsed Power Conference, 2009
With the aim of studying the characteristics of laser-triggered surface flashover in pulsed voltage, synchronization problem of laser pulse and voltage pulse is solved through a high precision trigger system. The experimental platform of laser-triggered surface flashover in pulsed voltage is built up in the laboratory.

Flashover prevention of high voltage piezoelectric transformers

2009 IEEE Pulsed Power Conference, 2009
Piezoelectric transformers are used as step-up voltage elements in many devices [1, 2]. The University of Missouri is developing a piezoelectric transformer as an accelerator for an ion beam [3]. In cases where high voltage pulses are desired, discharges can result from a large electric field near triple point junctions [4, 5].

Flashover Voltage over Ceramics in High Vacuum

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1974
Changes of flashover voltage over various ceramics were investigated in high vacuum with repeatedly applied DC and impulse voltages. It was found that the flashover voltage vs the number of repeated stressing curve showed a peak. The increase in the flashover voltage might be attributed to degassing of the surface of the ceramics, and the decrease ...

Intrinsic-like surface flashover voltage of insulators

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2015
The parameter for indicating the characteristics of the surface flashover voltage in vacuum is studied. Experiment results show that, compared with another conditioning method, the flashover voltages of ablative materials obtained by the multi-round stepped increasing voltage method (termed MRSIVM) are increased by 100-200%.

Research on flashover voltage of nylon in SF6 under high-voltage pulse

Journal of Electrostatics, 2019
Abstract Flashover on the surface of dielectric failure in compact accelerators can cause equipment to malfunction and threaten personal safety during high-power microwave (HPM) applications. In this study, flashover of nylon in SF6 was induced by a high-voltage pulse that was generated by a pulse formed network (PFN) with the duration of dozens of ...

Calculation of flashover voltage of polluted insulators under DC and AC voltages

Proceedings., Second International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials, 2003
The flashover processes of polluted insulators under both DC and AC voltages were observed with a high-speed camera. Physical and mathematical models to describe the DC and AC flashover are proposed. A formula expressing the resistance of the remainder pollution layer of a polluted insulator is derived.

Using Corrected Criteria to Model Flashover Voltage of Polluted Insulators

2006 IEEE International Power and Energy Conference, 2006
In this paper, a dynamic model to calculate the flashover voltage of polluted insulators is presented. This paper focuses mainly on two points: The criterion of arc propagation and the arc length in which the flashover occurs. For first point, the typical criteria of arc propagation are not regarded but also the main criterion of arc propagation is ...

Modified cuckoo search algorithm and the prediction of flashover voltage of insulators

Neural Computing and Applications, 2017
A novel modified cuckoo search (MCS) algorithm is proposed to enhance the performance of cuckoo search. In this MCS algorithm, an enhancing exploration strategy is adopted to extend the search region. At the same time, the control parameters of step size and discovery probability are adjusted adaptively according to the improvement rate of the ...
