The pollution flashover on high voltage insulators
Electric Power Systems Research, 2008The pollution flashover, observed on insulators used in high voltage transmission, is one of the most important problems for power transmission. It is a very complex problem due to several factors such as the modeling difficulties of complex shapes of the insulators, different pollution density at different regions, non-homogeneous pollution ...

Intrinsic-like surface flashover voltage of insulators
IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2015The parameter for indicating the characteristics of the surface flashover voltage in vacuum is studied. Experiment results show that, compared with another conditioning method, the flashover voltages of ablative materials obtained by the multi-round stepped increasing voltage method (termed MRSIVM) are increased by 100-200%.

Flashover prevention of high voltage piezoelectric transformers
2009 IEEE Pulsed Power Conference, 2009Piezoelectric transformers are used as step-up voltage elements in many devices [1, 2]. The University of Missouri is developing a piezoelectric transformer as an accelerator for an ion beam [3]. In cases where high voltage pulses are desired, discharges can result from a large electric field near triple point junctions [4, 5].

A Study of High-Voltage Flashovers
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1929A brief discussion is given of the various forms of electrical discharges as they are characterized by the physicists. Oscillographic records secured of voltages and currents, both before and during the flashovers, are reproduced and discussed. Polarity tests are described in which the electrode shape and spacing were found to determine the sign of the

Flashover inception voltage characteristic on polyimid surface under surge voltage application
2017 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials (ISEIM), 2017To understand the flashover characteristics on polyimide (PI) surface, the flashover inception voltage under the surge application (Surge-FOIV) on the PI surface was measured in this paper. The FOIV under the DC voltage application (DC-FOIV) was also measured. The Surge-FOIV was higher than DC-FOIV. This is attributed to lower occurrence probability of

European Transactions on Electrical Power, 1991
AbstractThe paper deals with the determination of critical flashover voltage and standard deviation from flashover probability data. A new and simple algorithm is suggested for the analysis of flashover data. In this algorithm the critical flashover voltage and standard deviation of the flashover of a given insulation are determined by interpolation of

Determination of Critical Flashover Voltage and Standard Deviation from Flashover Probability Data
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1969A method of determining the standard deviation and critical flashover (CFO) of flashover probability data which utilizes simple graphical techniques to obtain estimates of the parameters is developed. Suggestions are made regarding testing procedures to optimize information gained with a given number of voltage applications.

Flashover Voltage over Ceramics in High Vacuum
Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1974Changes of flashover voltage over various ceramics were investigated in high vacuum with repeatedly applied DC and impulse voltages. It was found that the flashover voltage vs the number of repeated stressing curve showed a peak. The increase in the flashover voltage might be attributed to degassing of the surface of the ceramics, and the decrease ...

Flashover voltage of insulator string under various conditions
2014 IEEE International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon), 2014Porcelain insulator has been slowly replaced by composite insulator in power grid nowadays. However, flashover fault still occurs on this insulator type. Under certain conditions, partial discharges may occur on the insulator and lead to a complete flashover. The flashover can cause the breakdown and damage the whole power system. Therefore, this paper

Effects of the contour of DC insulators on icing flashover process and flashover voltage
Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials (Cat. No.03CH37417), 2004In this paper, laboratory investigations of discharge processes and flashover performances in the low pressure and icing conditions of the high altitude areas simulated in the artificial climate chamber were carried out on XZP-160, XWP4-160 porcelain insulators, FC160P/C170DC glass insulator and lO kV DC composite insulator.
