The Hydroelastic Stability of a Flat Plate

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1970
This paper examines the hydroelastic stability of a flat plate, one side of which is exposed to a high velocity flow of a heavy fluid such as water. The plate is found to become unstable statically at first, but flutter is predicted for higher velocities.

Prestressing Flat Plates

PCI Journal, 1968
In the article "Designing for Continuity in Prestressed Concrete" (1.2) published in 1951, it was demonstrated that the moments induced by prestressing cables draped parabolically could be readily determined from a vertical loading pattern consistent with the imposed drape.

The forces on a flat plate in a couette flow

Zeitschrift für angewandte Mathematik und Physik ZAMP, 1972
A bounded shear flow proposed by Glauert is re-examined, to determine more precisely the disturbance caused by the boundary layer on the plate. Toomre and Rott's result, that the pressure gradient due to bounding overtakes the Li-Murray value for an unbounded flow within a surprisingly short distance of the leading edge, is thereby confirmed in a more ...

Flat-Plate Collectors

2016
A flat-plate collector (FPC) is a device to collect solar energy and transform it into thermal energy (low-grade energy) by using water as a working fluid. It is a heart of solar thermal devices that has many applications in a medium temperature range ≅100 °C from domestic to preheating to industrial sectors.

Flat-plate radiometer

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1987
A thermocouple-type radiometer is constructed by mounting a blackened thin-foil heat-flux sensor on a reflective heat-sink block. Either the sensor alone or the completed assembly is calibrated in a thermal conductivity apparatus. The device measures total hemispheric radiation and is estimated to be accurate to within 2%.
