Waveguides, bends and Y-junctions with improved transmission and bandwidth in hexagon-type SOI photonic crystal slabs [PDF]
This paper presents novel ways of implementing waveguide components in photonic crystal slabs based on silicon-on-insulator (SOI). The integration platform we consider consists of hexa¬gonal holes arranged in a triangular lattice (‘hexagon-type’ photonic

Contact Lens with Moiré Patterns for High‐Precision Eye Tracking
This work presents a passive contact lens for high‐precision eye tracking, integrating a microscopic moiré grating label. The parallax‐induced shift of macroscopic moiré patterns enables angle measurement with 0.28° precision using a standard camera under ambient light.

Infinite slabs and other weird plane symmetric space-times with constant positive density
We present the exact solution of Einstein's equation corresponding to a static and plane symmetric distribution of matter with constant positive density located below $z=0$.

Flat slab strengthening techniques against punching-shear
Abstract Over the years, the flat slab system has become a popular form of construction in many countries, particularly for multi-storey buildings such as offices or carparks. Nowadays, a considerable number of flat slab buildings requires strengthening against punching. Reasons are several, like design or construction errors, poor quality materials,

Rational halogen mixing strategy was employed to shift the bandgap of Cs2PbBr2I2 from ultraviolet to visible region, enabling first realization of a visible‐light photodetector with this 2D layered Ruddlesden‐Popper perovskite material. Under illumination, light‐induced internal field forms and drives trap‐mediated persistent photoconductivity ...

Dynamic Disproportionate Collapse in Flat-Slab Structures
AbstractDisproportionate collapse of structures can lead to catastrophic economic loss and casualties, and thus, it is of utmost concern to mitigate the risks of such events. Flat-slab structures are much more vulnerable to disproportionate collapse than moment-frame structures as there are no beams to redistribute the loads initially resisted by the ...

Geometrically‐Screened, Sterically‐Hindered Additive for Wide‐Temperature Aqueous Zinc‐Ion Batteries
A molecular‑engineering strategy combining steric hindrance tuning with geometric optimization identifies cellobiose as an ideal additive for aqueous zinc‑ion batteries, enabling stable Zn deposition across a wide temperature range from −30 to 50 °C. Abstract Aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (AZIBs) are emerging as a highly promising alternative to lithium ...

Punching strength of reinforced concrete flat slabs without shear reinforcement
Punching strength is a critical point in the design of flat slabs and due to the lack of a theoretical method capable of explaining this phenomenon, empirical formulations presented by codes of practice are still the most used method to check the bearing

Ni1‐Bi1 dual‐atom dopants are achieved for activating Ru lattices without blocking noble atoms. This model exhibits an ultralow overpotential of 11.4 mV and superb stability at 10 mA cm−2 toward hydrogen evolution reaction, enabling a proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer that needs only 2.233 V to reach 3.0 A cm−2 and operates stably at 1.0 A cm−

Punching of reinforced concrete flat slabs with holes and shear reinforcement
Punching shear is a possible type of failure that occurs in reinforced concrete flat slabs, which can develop with an ultimate load below flexural capacity.
