Insecticide/acaricide resistance in fleas and ticks infesting dogs and cats [PDF]

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2014
This review defines insecticide/acaricide resistance and describes the history, evolution, types, mechanisms, and detection of resistance as it applies to chemicals currently used against fleas and ticks of dogs and cats and summarizes resistance reported to date. We introduce the concept of refugia as it applies to flea and tick resistance and discuss

Plasma Pharmacokinetic Profile of Fipronil 1% Pour‐On in Cattle: Photodegradation and the Sustained Systemic Persistence of Fipronil Sulfone

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study characterized the long‐term pharmacokinetic profile of a 1% fipronil pour‐on formulation in Nellore bulls under field conditions. Seventeen animals received a single topical dose (1 mg/kg), and plasma concentrations of fipronil and its metabolites (sulfone and desulfinyl) were monitored for 175 days using LC–MS/MS.

Louse Flies on the Fly: Host Macroecology Shapes Interspecific Variation in Ectoparasite Prevalence Among Migrating Birds

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
We analysed over 100,000 migrating birds from 157 species to identify macroecological drivers of interspecific variation in louse fly prevalence. Using phylogenetically informed Bayesian models, we show that host morphology, ecology and biogeographic traits shape infection patterns, with Ornithomya avicularia and O.

METHOD FOR PROTECTING DOGS FROM FLEA INFESTATIONS

open access: yesTHEORY AND PRACTICE OF PARASITIC DISEASE CONTROL, 2020
The insecticidal efficacy of the active substances of abamectin 0.1% and fipronil 0.05% for flea dermatitis in dogs was evaluated. For research, 50 invasive animals were selected, which were divided into 5 groups in equal numbers. The animals were treated twice with an interval of 5 days by the method of large-drop spraying of the withers, dewlap ...
