Lagomorph cranial biomechanics and the functional significance of the unique fenestrated rostrum of leporids

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The crania of leporid lagomorphs are uniquely fenestrated, including the posterior cranial bones and the lateral portion of the maxilla. The functional significance of the highly fenestrated rostrum has received considerably little attention, despite being absent in other mammalian herbivores with a long rostrum.

Genotypic Expression at Different Ages: II. Wool Traits of Sheep [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Genetic parameters for wool traits for Columbia, Polypay, Rambouillet, and Targhee breeds of sheep were estimated with single- and multiple-trait analyses using REML with animal models.

Cortical bone distribution in the human mandibular symphysis: Ontogenic and morphometric approaches in archeological context

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The human mandibular symphysis concentrates multiaxial loads during function and remodels throughout growth, but the precise mechanisms underlying cortical bone shape during growth remain relatively unexplored. Approaches based solely on thickness or external cortical contours provide only partial insights and do not capture the functional ...

Heritability estimates and correlations between subjectively assessed and objectively measured fleece traits in Merino sheep [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Data from 2801 individuals (born from 1996 to 2002) were used to obtain heritability (h2) estimates for five objectively measured and six linearly assessed type fleece traits (scored on a 1-50 point scale) from the Tygerhoek Merino flock. Correlations of

Evolutionary radiation of large‐bodied gorgonopsians from the lower Abrahamskraal formation of South Africa

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The middle Permian represents a critical interval in therapsid evolution, when gorgonopsians emerged as some of the first specialized apex predators within terrestrial ecosystems. Despite their significance, the early diversification of Gorgonopsia in Gondwana remains poorly understood due to scarcity and fragmentary material.

Comparison of The Fleece Characteristics of Karakas and Norduz Sheep (local ewes) in Turkey

open access: yes, 2005
: Data were collected from 10 Karakas and 10 Norduz sheep in Animal Science Breeding Farm, Yuzuncu Yil University, Turkey. Fleece characteristics in the sheep were investigated as greasy fleece weight (kg), clean fiber percentage (%), elasticity (%),

Morpho‐functional analyses of the jaw apparatus in the Blue‐and‐yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna, Psittaciformes, Aves): Adaptations to feeding behavior

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Macaws are renowned for processing dry, mechanically resistant fruits, yet the species‐level anatomical and functional correlates of this performance remain incompletely resolved. We examined the feeding apparatus of the Blue‐and‐yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna) using an integrated approach that combines osteology, myology, and bite‐force estimates

Relationships between cashmere production and other important economic traits of Inner Mongolia cashmere goats

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2019
Previous studies have shown that cashmere production (CP) is related to fibre length (FL), mean fibre diameter (MFD) and live body weight (LWT) in Inner Mongolia cashmere goats (IMCGs).

Genetic parameters for Lamb Autopsy Traits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Heritabilities and genetic correlations were estimated between individual and composite autopsy traits for lambs autopsied in the Australian Sheep Cooperative Research Centre information nucleus flocks between 2008 and 2011 (n=3,224).
