Powers opposed and intrinsic finks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Philosophers disagree over whether dispositions can be intrinsically finked or masked. Choi suggests that there are no clear, relevant differences between cases where intrinsic finks would be absurd and those where they seem plausible, and as a result ...

Mendelian Inheritance of Pupal Diapause in the Flesh Fly, Sarcophaga bullata [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Heredity, 2008
Pupal diapause (dormancy) in the flesh fly, Sarcophaga bullata, is induced by short-day photoperiods and low temperature. In this study, the inheritance mode of diapause was investigated by crossing a nondiapausing (nd) strain of S. bullata with 2 diapausing strains having different diapause capacities.

Museomics and phylogenomics with protein-encoding ultraconserved elements illuminate the evolution of life history and phallic morphology of flesh flies (Diptera: Sarcophagidae)

open access: yesBMC Ecology and Evolution, 2021
Background The common name of the Flesh flies (Sarcophagidae) usually relates them with organisms feeding on decomposing organic matter, although the biology of one of the largest radiations among insects also includes predation, coprophagy, and even ...

George Starkey, an Early Seventeenth-Century American Entomologist [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Between the earliest known North American entomological observations made by John White (Wilkinson, 1973a) and Thomas Hariot, and the beginning of more systematic investigations by John Banister (Ewan and Ewan, 1970) and other collectors in the late ...

Molecular Species Identification of Six Forensically Important Iranian Flesh Flies (Diptera)

open access: yesJournal of Arthropod-Borne Diseases, 2021
Background: Flesh flies (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) are considered as myiasis agents and important evidences in forensic investigations. However, their use has been restricted because, at all larval stages and female adults, morphological species ...

The effect of traditional handling, processing and storage methods on the quality of dried fish in small scale fisheries in Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Most of the fish marketed throughout Nigeria are in either smoked or dried form. The technological requirement for other forms of preservation like chilling and freezing cannot be afforded by the small scale fisher folk.

A role of corazonin receptor in larval-pupal transition and pupariation in the oriental fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Corazonin (Crz) is a neuropeptide hormone, but also a neuropeptide modulator that is internally released within the CNS, and it has a widespread distribution in insects with diverse physiological functions.

Effects of Cultivation Conditions for Apples on Growth Rates of Fruit Fly Larvae and Contents of Phenolics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Apples were grown with 3 different alleyway groundcover management strategies, providing a wide range of nutrient availabilities to the trees, spanning the ranges normally found in both conventional and organic orchards.

First mitogenome for the subfamily Miltogramminae (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) and its phylogenetic implications

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2017
The mitochondrial genome of Mesomelena mesomelaena (Loew, 1848) is the first to be sequenced in the flesh fly subfamily Miltogramminae (Diptera: Sarcophagidae).
