The influence of cable swings on the electrical parameters of flexible cables
Conference Record of the 1990 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2002A mechanical model of flexible cables is presented and is used to investigate the influence of cable swings on the electrical parameters of the flexible cable system. In the secondary circuit of an electric arc furnace, the flexible cables represent an important element whose reactance can be up to 75% of the total secondary circuit reactance.

Free Vibration of Flexible Cables
Volume 8: 27th Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 2015The free undamped vibrations of cables undergoing stretching, bending and twisting are investigated. To this end, a geometrically exact model of elastic cables accounting for bending and torsional stiffness is employed. The cable kinematics retain the full geometric nonlinearities.

Tensile Tests on Flexible Steel Cable and Cable Ends
Aeronautical journal (London, England : 1897), 1931The following table is the result of a series of tests carried out at East London College (University of London) on various methods of mounting flexible steel cables, in cable ends. The specimens were kindly supplied by Messrs. T. W. K. Clarke and Co.Cables Nos. 1 and 3 were fixed in the following manner.

Flexible Superconducting Power Cables
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1973In view of the fact that installation costs may represent up to half the investment in an underground cable system, it is desirable to develop concepts for superconducting cables which, from the beginning, promise to keep this expense to a minimum. Superconducting cable will be very light and, providing it is flexible, the cable should be capable of ...

Equations of motion for flexible cables.
Journal of Aircraft, 1972metal wing. The addition of composite material in region 1 actually reduced the flutter speed. Flutter calculations using a massless patch showed that the reduction in flutter speed was caused almost entirely by trie stiffness of the patch, rather than by the mass of the patch. The fact that the flutter design in Fig.

Electrical characterization and performance limits of a flexible cable
IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1993The electrical performance of a flexible-cable test structure is characterized from low frequencies up to 25 GHz. The experimental results are used to develop and refine models which describe the performance of such cables, with particular emphasis on the contribution of dielectric and resistive losses, including skin effect. The capability of triplate

Flexible Cable-Driven Parallel Manipulator Control: Maintaining Positive Cable Tensions
IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2018In this brief, a planar cable-driven parallel manipulator is controlled using a strictly positive real compensator, cable pretension is explicitly accounted for, and cable slack is avoided. A strictly positive real controller is implemented using actuator saturation prevention techniques and the solution to a linear programming problem to ensure that ...

Coupled dynamics of flexible cables and rigid end-effector for a cable suspended robot
2006 American Control Conference, 2006An important application of cable-suspended robots is in long-reach manipulation tasks. The usual assumption of rigid cables is not valid in these situations. The flexibility of cables needs to be included during modeling of residual motion of the manipulator after a gross motion has been made.

Low reactance flexible cable for induction heating
Electrical Engineering, 1946THERE has been a demand for a flexible cable to carry single phase current for induction heating at frequencies up to 10 kc. Tests on an interleaved type of cable, used widely in portable spot welding, indicate its usefulness in carrying rethousands of amperes at potentials under 1,000 volts at the higher frequencies.

Abstract : Effort was made to promote the development of better methods of terminating flat flexible cable, and inspiring original approaches to simplify its installation. The primary requirements for the new type connector were that the connector be capable of being installed in the field with a minimum of tooling; and, that it provide a highly ...
