Disc flexibility effects in rotor bearing systems

Computers & Structures, 1997
Abstract The importance of the inclusion of disk flexibility on the natural frequencies in a rotor dynamic analysis has attracted the attention of many researchers in the recent past. Such an analysis helps to predict the dynamic response of rotors more accurately from the natural frequencies and mode shapes calculated hence.

Heat Transfer and Thermoelastic Dynamics of a Rotating Flexible Disc in a Hard Disc Drive

2014
Multi-field dynamic coupling takes place in computer hard disc drives, involving air flow, heat transfer and thermoelastic vibration of a rotating flexible disc in an enclosure filled with air. Air velocities and pressure induced by disc rotation in the enclosure are obtained by using penalty finite element method.

Heritability of lumbar flexibility and the role of disc degeneration and body weight

Journal of Applied Physiology, 2008
Spinal range of motion is evaluated in assessing patients with back problems and monitoring outcomes, as well as in general fitness assessments. Yet, determinants of the substantial interindividual variation in spinal range of motion are not well understood.

Analysis and Simulation Evaluation of a Novel Metallic-Disc Flexible Coupling

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
In additional to transfer the torque safely, the coupling of the diesel generator set should also has the function of compensating the relative offset distance between the centre line of the diesel crank shaft and the centre line of the generator rotor axis.

Flexible Disc Coupling Model in Rotating Shafts

2018
Accommodating inevitable misalignment is one of the couplings main functions and, in order to predict theoretically the effects of this malfunction on machine behavior, it is essential to introduce the flexible coupling model in the system’s equation of motion. Structural analysis of metallic disc coupling is conducted by means of finite element method,

The accession to inertia of flexible discs vibrating in a fluid

Proceedings of the Physical Society, 1932
In this paper formulae are obtained for the velocity-potential at the surface of a free-edge disc vibrating with nodal lines in a fluid. These formulae are used to ascertain the accession to inertia due to the fluid when the disc is set in an infinite rigid plane.

Flexible and precise material processing with femtosecond disc lasers

ICALEO 2011: 30th International Congress on Laser Materials Processing, Laser Microprocessing and Nanomanufacturing, 2011
New dimensions in precision and the variety of machinable materials are enabled by the use of ultrashort laser pulses in material processing. Due to new powerful beam sources the processing efficiency has already reached an economic interesting state.

Vibration of a Rotating Flexible Ferromagnetic Disc Subjected to a Solenoid Electromagnet

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part K: Journal of Multi-body Dynamics, 2011
A rotating flexible ferromagnetic annular disc with initial unstressed transverse runout subjected to a solenoid electromagnet is modelled and investigated. The total transverse deflection of the steady-state response of the rotating disc is analysed, and the condition of undamped resonance induced by the initial transverse runout and the stiffness of ...

Development of a Flexible Disc-Shaped Lens for Capsular Fixation

European Journal of Implant and Refractive Surgery, 1989
A flexible disc-shaped lens, made of silicone rubber, has been developed to make the advantages of radial symmetrical lenses available to small-incision techniques. The lens has a cuneiform haptic, to reinforce its stability in the capsular bag, and the thinner design enables it to be folded more easily. First clinical results are promising.
