Ground effect on the hydrodynamic performance of a flexible hinge-connected fin
2018 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM), 2018The swimming performance of a flexible fin under ground effect is investigated with computational method in this paper. The flexible fin consists of two parts with different flexibility and performs a pitching motion. Its hydrodynamic force and fluid response are detailed investigated with various gap/distance between the fin and ground.

Use of Grommets for Flexible Hinge Implant Arthroplasty of the Great Toe
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1997A double stemmed flexible hinge implant was designed in 1974 for use with the Mayo type resection arthroplasty of the first metatarsophalangeal joint. Press-fit titanium grommets were developed in 1985 to protect the implant midsection from sharp bony edges and shearing forces that can lead to implant abrasion or fracture, and particulate synovitis ...

The Use of Grommets for Flexible Hinge Toe Implants A Case Report
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1995The postmortem examination of bilateral first metatarsophalangeal flexible hinge toe implants in a 66-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis is reported. The prosthesis had been inserted with grommets in 1 joint and without grommets in the other 2.5 years before her death.

Rigidity analysis of half arc flexible hinges
Proceedings of 2012 International Conference on Measurement, Information and Control, 2012Flexible hinges are widely used in micro robotic. Its rigidity directly influences an organization's terminal localization. Its actual structure geometry size cannot satisfy the theoretical analysis completely in a theoretical supposition condition. In this paper, we analyzed the rotation rigidity of half arc flexible hinges in different parameters ...

Hinged nanorods made using a chemical approach to flexible nanostructures
Nature Nanotechnology, 2007The fabrication of multifunctional nanomaterials and their subsequent use for novel applications in various branches of nanotechnology has been under intense scrutiny. Particularly in the area of nanomechanics, the design of multicomponent nanostructures with an integrated multifunctionality would enable the construction of building blocks for ...

Ribosomal RNA Kink-turn Motif—A Flexible Molecular Hinge
Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, 2004Ribosomal RNA K-turn motifs are asymmetric internal loops characterized by a sharp bend in the phosphodiester backbone resulting in "V" shaped structures, recurrently observed in ribosomes and showing a high degree of sequence conservation. We have carried out extended explicit solvent molecular dynamics simulations of selected K-turns, in order to ...

A novel proton-selective sensor based on a sugar with hinge flexibility
Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2007A hinge sugar, a 2,4-diamino-2,4-dideoxy-beta-D-xylopyranoside derivative, turns its four equatorial substituents into axial orientations through a (4)C(1)-to-(1)C(4) ring flip in response to chelation to a metal ion. This hinge-like motion enables two components attached at the 1- and 3-positions to switch between far and near states.

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1998
The use of a hinge for a removable partial denture with an opening labial bow was replaced by the design and construction of a flexible plate incorporated as part of a cobalt-chromium casting.Three similar prostheses were constructed and tested in vitro on an endurance test machine.
