Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Dynamics and Control of a Flexible-Link Flexible-Joint Space Robot with Joint Friction

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sciences, 2020
Multi-DOF flexible space robots play a significant role in the on-orbit service. The flexibility of the robots is mainly caused by the flexible links and some flexible drive elements in joints. The vibration generated by the component flexibility can affect the accuracy of control.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Flexible Joints of Picking Manipulator Based on Current Feedback

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
During the process of automatic picking, malfunctions caused by collisions between the picking manipulator and obstacles can damage plants and/or injure staff. To solve this problem, a flexible joint based on an elastic actuator is designed.

A Novel Constant Damping and High Stiffness Control Method for Flexible Space Manipulators Using Luenberger State Observer

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
This paper presents a novel control strategy for transferring large inertia loads using flexible space manipulators in orbit. The proposed strategy employs a Luenberger state observer and damping-stiffness controller to address issues of large tracking ...

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Robust estimation of variable stiffness in flexible joints [PDF]

open access: yes2011 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2011
We consider the problem of estimating on line the nonlinear stiffness of flexible transmissions in robot joints, with special reference to actuation devices with adjustable stiffness in serial configuration. These joints are characterized by a principal motor for controlling the link motion and secondary motor for adjusting the stiffness.

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...
