Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

The imitating flapping behaviour of mosquito using flexible wing model

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
The mosquito's wing is deforming during flapping stroke and the pitching angle is changed. The motion called “feathering motion” is considered that the wing is deformed passively by the aerodynamic force. But it is not established yet. In this paper,

The effects of aeroelastic deformation on the unaugmented stopped-rotor dynamics of an X-Wing aircraft [PDF]

open access: yes
A new design concept in the development of VTOL aircraft with high forward flight speed capability is that of the X-Wing, a stiff, bearingless helicopter rotor system which can be stopped in flight and the blades used as two forward-swept and two aft ...

Gust Load Alleviation with Robust Control for a Flexible Wing

open access: yes, 2016
Traditional methods for gust alleviation of aircraft are mostly proposed based on a specific flight condition. In this paper, robust control laws are designed for a large flexible wing with uncertainty in Mach number and dynamic pressure.
