Demo 24-05 Polarization by Reflection
Light waves can be polarized by reflection from a dielectric surface, as shown in Figure 1. The amount of polarization depends on the angle at which the light strikes the surface, with the maximum effect occurring at an angle called the Brewster angle,

Verification of the flexoelectricity in barium strontium titanate through d33 meter
Flexoelectricity is a newly arising electromechanical property that couples strain gradient to polarization. This physical property widely exists in most of the solid dielectrics but has quite weak response that often overlooked.

Reversible flexoelectric domain engineering at the nanoscale in van der Waals ferroelectrics
The universal flexoelectric effect in solids provides a mechanical pathway for controlling electric polarization in ultrathin ferroelectrics, eliminating potential material breakdown from a giant electric field at the nanoscale.

Flexoelectricity driven elastic contact–separation model for triboelectrification
Triboelectrification is the transfer of electrical charge between surfaces during contact. When the contact is purely normal (i.e., no sliding), the term contact electrification is often used.

Polarization singularities in the clear sky
Ideas from singularity theory provide a simple account of the pattern of polarization directions in daylight. The singularities (two near the Sun and two near the anti-Sun) are points in the sky where the polarization line pattern has index +1/2 and the ...

The number and types of all possible rotational symmetries for flexoelectric tensors
International audienceFlexoelectricity is due to the electric polarization generated by a non-zero strain gradient in a dielectric material without or with centrosymmetric microstructure.

Measurement of the flexoelectric response in ferroelectric and relaxor polymer thin films [PDF]
We report measurements of the flexoelectric response (electric polarization induced by a strain gradient) in thin films of both ferroelectric and relaxor forms of vinylidene fluoride polymers.

Defect‐Engineered SrTiO3‐x for Flexoelectric‐Dominated Catalysis
Flexocatalysis provides an alternative route for converting mechanical energy into electrical energy through flexoelectricity, thereby avoiding the crystal‐symmetry constraints that limit conventional piezocatalysis to non‐centrosymmetric materials.

Macroscopic modeling of flexoelectricity-driven remanent polarization in piezoceramics
The authors propose a macroscopic continuum model for ferroelectrics, that takes into account the higher-order effect of flexoelectricity, in addition to the hysteretic material behavior of piezoceramics. The study finds application in sensor technology by enhancing the impact of the direct flexoelectric effect.

Nanomechanics of flexoelectric switching
We examine the phenomenon of flexoelectric switching of polarization in ultrathin films of barium titanate induced by a tip of an atomic force microscope (AFM).
