The bending and vibration responses of functionally graded piezoelectric nanobeams with dynamic flexoelectric effect

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2021
Dynamic flexoelectric effect refers to the coupling between polarization and acceleration of a material, which is usually ignored in previous works.

Coupling effect of impact and in-layer voltage on flexoelectricity of PDMS laminated structures

open access: yesPolymer Testing, 2022
The low flexoelectric coefficients of polymers are the key problem that limit their application. In this paper, electret-like PDMS/metal conductive layer/PDMS laminated structures have been prepared, an internal electric field are applied on the metal ...

Flexoelectric manipulation of ferroelectric polarization in self-strained tellurium. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Adv
Beyond conventional ferroelectric compounds, the realization of single-element ferroelectricity expands the scope of ferroelectric materials and diversifies polarization mechanisms. However, strategies for manipulating ferroelectric dipoles in elemental ferroelectrics remain underexplored, limiting their broader applications.

Flexoelectric polarizing and control of a ferromagnetic metal

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract Electric polarization can only be well defined in insulators, not in metals, and there is no general scheme to induce and control bulk polarity in metals. Here, we circumvent this limitation by utilizing a pseudo-electric field generated by inhomogeneous lattice strain, namely a flexoelectric field, as a universal means of polarizing ...

Numerical Simulation of Flow-Induced Flexoelectric Effect in Liquid Crystals

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2007
As a fundamental research for developing new liquid crystalline devices, numerical simulations on flexoelectric polarization in liquid crystals under shear flow has been performed using the Leslie-Ericksen continuum theory.

Flexoelectric rotation of polarization in ferroelectric thin films

open access: yesNature Materials, 2011
Strain engineering enables modification of the properties of thin films using the stress from the substrates on which they are grown. Strain may be relaxed, however, and this can also modify the properties thanks to the coupling between strain gradient and polarization known as flexoelectricity.

Influence of impact velocity on flexoelectric effect

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
Flexoelectric effect is the coupling of the inhomogeneous deformation and electric polarization, which exists widely in dielectrics. At present, although some scholars have carried out the experimental research on the measurement of the flexoelectric ...

Enhanced polarization and abnormal flexural deformation in bent freestanding perovskite oxides

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Freestanding perovskite oxides pave the way to novel flexural properties. Here, the authors observe the nanoscale strain gradient induced flexoelectric polarization with an unusual flexo-expansion/shrinkage effect in freestanding ferroelectric oxide.

Flexoelectric Thin-Film Photodetectors

open access: yes, 2022
The flexoelectric effect, which manifests itself as a strain-gradient-induced electrical polarization, has triggered great interest due to its ubiquitous existence in crystalline materials without the limitation of lattice symmetry.

Flexoelectricity and the polarity of complex ferroelastic twin patterns [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2016
We study, by means of an atomistic toy model, the interplay of ferroelastic twin patterns and electrical polarization. Our molecular dynamics simulations reproduce polarity in straight twin walls as observed experimentally. We show, by making contact with continuum theory, that the effect is governed by linear flexoelectricity.
