Flexomagnetic Effect in Wrinkled SrRuO3 Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials
The coupling between strain gradients and magnetic spins in perovskite thin films has long been a key focus of magnetism research, representing one of the essential pathways toward the realization of functional and flexible magnetic sensors and data ...

Flexoelectricity in oxide thin films

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Dielectrics
Flexoelectric effect describes the electromechanical coupling between the strain gradient and its internal polarization in all dielectrics. Despite this universality, the resulting flexoelectric field remains small at the macroscopic level.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 81, 8 October 2026.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Optical Signature of Moiré Superlattices Formed by Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 81, 8 October 2026.
We discover optical signatures from bonded interfaces in twisted SrTiO3 moiré superlattices, including low‐frequency Raman vibrational modes and strong second‐harmonic generation, consistent with strong interlayer coupling inferred from cross‐sectional electron microscopy and ab initio calculations. ABSTRACT Moiré superlattices formed at the interfaces

Flexoelectric control of polarization in 2D materials

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics
This review article provides an overview of polarization generation and control in two-dimensional (2D) materials through the flexoelectric effect. Polarization can be engineered across multiple length scales, from the atomic to macroscopic level, using surface corrugation, substrate deformation, and atomic force microscopy tip loading.

Embedded Ferroelectric Nanoclusters Can Drive Polarization Reversal in a Non‐Ferroelectric Polar Film via the Proximity Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 81, 8 October 2026.
Ferroelectric nanoclusters create local internal fields in a normally non‐switchable polar film because of polarization mismatch at their interfaces. That field opposes polarization in the regions with larger polarization and reinforces polarization in the regions with smaller polarization.

Factors influencing flexoelectric polarization in liquid crystals

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2020
Abstract The work experimentally investigated the factors affecting the formation and physical parameters of flexoelectric polarization in liquid crystals (LC) with nematic as well as smectic A- and C-phases. Factors such as the heating temperature of the sample, orientation effects near the nematic – isotropic state (N-I) phase ...

Tuning the polar states of ferroelectric films via surface charges and flexoelectricity [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2017
Using the self-consistent Landau-Ginzburg-Devonshire approach we simulate and analyze the spontaneous formation of the domain structure in thin ferroelectric films covered with the surface screening charge of the specific nature (Bardeen-type surface states).

Establishing Atomic Coherence in Twisted Oxide Membranes Containing Volatile Elements

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 55, 1 October 2026.
Twisted oxide membranes containing volatile elements often suffer from amorphous interfacial dead layers that suppress coupling. An oxygen‐annealing strategy establishes atomically coherent and chemically bonded interfaces in twisted NaNbO3 membranes, enabling coherent oxide moiré architectures in volatile‐element‐containing systems.
