Multifunctional Fluidic Units for Emergent, Responsive Robotic Behaviors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional reconfigurable fluidic unit can be used as sensor, valve and actuator is presented. A unique configuration combines the features of the three components as a Responsive self‐oscillating actuator. The remarkable versatility of the fluidic unit is demonstrated by building different robots with the same fluidic units only by varying ...

Chiral Acoustic Phonon and Conservation of Pseudoangular Momentum in α‐Quartz

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral acoustic phonons in α‐quartz are probed via Brillouin light scattering, exploiting the photon's helicity and the crystal's handedness. The interaction obeys a selection rule arising from pseudoangular momentum conservation, enabling direct optical access to phonon chirality in nonsymmorphic crystals.

Determination of shortening by flexure folding modified by flattening [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
A simple visual field method of determining, the amount of flattening of a flattened flexure fold is described. The method allows estimation of the pre-flattening thicknesses and dips of the deformed beds, so that original thicknesses of sequences ...
