Monolithic scalable compliant mechanisms. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS One
Scaling a physical device’s geometry results in mechanical properties changing in various ways (e.g. the cubed-squared law states that for a scaling factor C , mass scales with C 3 and surface area with C

Compliant space mechanisms: a new frontier for compliant mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yesMechanical Sciences, 2011
Abstract. Compliant mechanisms offer distinct advantages for use in space that can address many of the issues encountered with current rigid-link space mechanisms. Compliant space mechanisms are defined as moveable mechanical assemblies that achieve their desired motion, force, or displacement by means of the deflection of flexible members and can ...

Mobility of the compliant joints and compliant mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics, 2005
This paper deals with a mobility of the single compliant joints and entire compliant mechanisms. The compliance of the joints and the mobility of the compliant mechanism can be increased by variations of geometry as well as material type of the joints.

Compliant shell mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2012
Abstract This paper describes a class of lightweight structures known as compliant shell mechanisms. These are novel reconfigurable solutions for advanced structures, such as morphing shells and deployable membranes. They have local, discrete corrugations, which articulate and deform to achieve dramatic changes in the overall shape of

Surgical Applications of Compliant Mechanisms

open access: yesJournal of mechanisms and robotics-Transactions of the asme, 2021
Current surgical devices are mostly rigid and are made of stiff materials, even though their predominant use is on soft and wet tissues. With the emergence of compliant mechanisms (CMs), surgical tools can be designed to be flexible and made using soft materials.

Mechanically compliant grating reflectors for optomechanics [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2012
We demonstrate micromechanical reflectors with a reflectivity as large as 99.4% and a mechanical quality factor Q as large as 7.8 × 105 for optomechanical applications. The reflectors are silicon nitride membranes patterned with sub-wavelength grating structures, obviating the need for the many dielectric layers used in conventional mirrors.

Novel compliant wiper mechanism [PDF]

open access: yesMechanical Sciences, 2018
Abstract. Conventional wiper mechanisms that are used in automotive vehicles comprise numerous linkages and joints. In this study, in order to obtain a simpler design, a novel compliant wiper mechanism is introduced. The wiper mechanism is essentially a partially compliant four-bar mechanism.

Therapeutic Apheresis for Intravenous Methylprednisolone‐Refractory Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder: Clinical and Radiological Outcomes in a Single‐Center Case Series

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a relapsing autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. High‐dose intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) is the standard first‐line therapy for acute attacks, although some patients remain refractory.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
