Corner-Filleted Flexure Hinges

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2000
The paper presents an analytical approach to corner-filleted flexure hinges. Closed- form solutions are derived for the in-plane compliance factors. It is demonstrated that the corner-filleted flexure hinge spans a domain delimited by the simple beam and the right circular flexure hinge.

Tractable model for concave flexure hinges

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2011
In this article we prove that approximate solutions previously developed by us, with inverse conformal mapping, for concave flexure notch hinges rotational compliance in correct applications are accurate enough in comparison with the more complicated “precision” solutions for the conic profiles based on the integration of differential equations, finite

Topology Optimization of Flexure Hinges

2018
This chapter is devoted to developing a systematic method for the topology optimization of flexure hinges. The main research work includes: (1) Developing basic topology optimization models for translational and revolute flexure hinges. The objective function for the topology optimization of flexure hinges is to maximize the compliance in the ...

MEMS-Based Conjugate Surfaces Flexure Hinge

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2015
This paper presents a new concept flexure hinge for MEMS applications and reveals how to design, construct, and experimentally test. This hinge combines a curved beam, as a flexible element, and a pair of conjugate surfaces, whose contact depends on load conditions.

Optimized Flexural Hinges for Compliant Micromechanisms

Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing, 2005
In this work a procedure for the optimal design of flexural hinges to be microfabricated by a lithographic process is proposed. The structural optimization problem is approached by coupling a parametric finite element model to an optimization algorithm.

Reconfigurable Soft Flexure Hinges via Pinched Tubes

2020 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), 2020
Tuning the stiffness of soft robots is essential in order to extend usability and control the maneuverability of soft robots. In this paper, we propose a novel mechanism that can reconfigure the stiffness of tubular structures, using pinching to induce highly directional changes in stiffness.

Micropositioning System with Flexure Hinges for Microfactories

Key Engineering Materials, 2013
In this paper it is presented a ductile system for micropositioning in a two-dimensional coordinate system. Accuracy positioning results from usage of asymmetric flexure hinges. It also it is presented the modeling of the asymmetric flexure hinges, finite element analysis, and experimental work.

Calculation and analysis of parabolic flexure hinge

Proceedings of 2012 International Conference on Measurement, Information and Control, 2012
Flexible hinges are widely used in micro robotic. Its compliance directly influences an organization's termial localization. Based on the Castigliano's second theorem and calculus, closed-form equations are formulated for compliances of parabolic flexure hinge. Precision of rotation is also evaluated in terms of compliances. The finite element analysis

Compliances of symmetric flexure hinges for planar compliant mechanisms

2012 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2012
A general analytical compliance model is presented for symmetric flexure hinges formed of serial segments of known compliances and with thicknesses defined analytically. Serial combination, mirroring, and translation of individual segments yield the flexure compliances.
