Stable Imitation of Multigait and Bipedal Motions for Quadrupedal Robots Over Uneven Terrains

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
How are quadrupedal robots empowered to execute complex navigation tasks, including multigait and bipedal motions? Challenges in stability and real‐world adaptation persist, especially with uneven terrains and disturbances. This article presents an imitation learning framework that enhances adaptability and robustness by incorporating long short‐term ...

Transgenic and histological approaches to investigating the development of the stalk-eyed fly, Teleopsis dalmanni

open access: yes, 2009
Stalk-eyed flies of the family Diopsidae have their eyes laterally displaced on the end of head extensions called “eye-stalks”. Diopsids vary in their degree of sexual dimorphism for eyespan (distance between the eyes).

Transpersonal literature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
What do you get if you apply Ken Wilber's theories of transpersonal psychological development within human consciousness to William Golding's Lord of the Flies or Conrad's Heart of Darkness, or Shakespeare's Hamlet?

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Nonlocomotory Robotic Strategies for Dynamic Rotation Control in Terrestrial Robots: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Terrestrial robots increasingly require rapid body rotation to maintain stability and agility in complex environments. This review shows nonlocomotory rotational control strategies that operate without ground contact, including reaction wheels, tails, bars, limbs, and thrusters.
