Alkali Ion‐Incorporated HfO2 Dielectrics for Reconfigurable Neuromorphic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) transistor with an alkali cation‐integrated hafnium dioxide (HfO2) dielectric exhibiting synaptic behavior via ion retention. The solution‐based film fabrication strategy overcomes the limitations of atomic layer deposition (ALD) and precursor coating, enabling the control of synaptic retention ...

Flight muscle mitochondria are robust against endurance flight damage in blackpoll warblers Setophaga striata

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology
Migratory birds are physiologically challenged by intense exercise while fasting during flights that may last hours to days. Exercise‐induced oxidative stress could compromise flight performance by inducing mitochondrial dysfunction in the flight muscle.

The development of compensatory ability for a sexually-selected ornament in stalk-eyed flies

open access: yesFrontiers in Ethology
Female preference for longer eyespan has driven exaggerated sexual dimorphism in several species of stalk-eyed flies. Longer eyespan increases a fly’s moment of inertia, and flies experience significant increase in body mass across age as they mature ...

Comparative evaluation of air transport: nonperformance or non- performance of timely transportation contract [PDF]

open access: yesFaṣlnāmah-i Pizhūhish-i Huqūq-i Khuṣūṣī, 2011
When passengers or goods do not reach their destination at the agreed time, non-performance of timely transportation contract is executed. Agreed time may explicitly or implicitly listed on the ticket or from advertising of transpors or pubic news to be ...

The Dynamometer Hub for the Testing Propellers and Engines During Flight [PDF]

open access: yes
The need for a device to measure flight resistance, engine and propeller power, and efficiency during flight grew in proportion to the demand for increased flying capacity in military types of aircraft.

Mesoporous Carbon Thin Films with Large Mesopores as Model Material for Electrochemical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous carbon thin films possessing 70 nm mesopores are prepared on titanium substrates by soft templating of resol resins with a self‐synthesized poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(hexyl acrylate) block copolymer. A strategy to avoid corrosion of the metal substrate is presented, and the films are extensively characterized in terms of morphology ...

Compression strength of composite primary structural components [PDF]

open access: yes
The geometrically nonlinear response and failure of thin-walled structural components made from advanced composite materials is discussed. The materials involved are structural components in flight vehicle structures that are laminated from graphite ...

A Biologically‐Architected Wear and Damage‐Resistant Nanoparticle Coating From the Radular Teeth of Cryptochiton stelleri

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The ultrahard teeth of mollusks that feed on rocky substrates contain a wear‐resistant coating on their surfaces consisting of densely packed mesocrystalline magnetic nanoparticles within an organic matrix. These coatings display significant hardness and toughness through their highly controlled mesocrystalline architectures.

Gram‐Scale Production of Iron Oxide Rubik‐Cube Nanoparticles: New Tools for the Clinical Translation of Magnetic Hyperthermia and Magnetic Particle Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work reports the first gram‐scale solvothermal synthesis of ‘Rubik's cube’ nanoparticles—cubic, dendritic multicore structures with tuneable sizes and exceptional magnetic heating performance. Featuring iron oxide single‐domain character, with low coercivity fields, high magnetization, and strong MPI signals, they enable viscosity‐independent ...
