Flight simulators for under $100000

open access: yesIEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 1988
To demonstrate the feasibility and practicability of designing and building low-cost flight simulators, a prototype system was developed to model the performance of a new US Army remotely piloted missile system. The flight simulator displays a dynamic, three-dimensional, out-the-window view of the terrain in real time while responding to operator input

Flexoelectrically Induced Polar Topology in Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Twisted SrTiO3 bilayers host polar vortices of flexoelectric origin, revealed through combined experiment and theory. By reconstructing polarization from the toroidal moment of strain gradients, the work establishes a 3D chiral state with broken inversion and mirror symmetries.

Instructor and student pilots' subjective evaluation of a general aviation simulator with a terrain visual system [PDF]

open access: yes
Ten student pilots were given a 1 hour training session in the NASA Langley Research Center's General Aviation Simulator by a certified flight instructor and a follow-up flight evaluation was performed by the student's own flight instructor, who has also

Effect of Atomic Layer Deposition of Ultra‐Thin Oxide on Reactivity and Durability of Perovskite Oxygen Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This table of contents illustrates that the mechanism for mitigating Sr segregation depends strongly on the chemistry of the coating layer. HfO2 electrostatically stabilizes the surface by lowering the surface oxygen vacancies, which serve as the driving force for Sr migration. On the other hand, Al2O3 and Fe2O3 react with segregated Sr to form Sr‐Al‐O

Virtual Reality in PCATD-Based Instrument Flight Training: A Quasi-Transfer of Training Study

open access: yesTechnologies
The use of virtual reality for pilot flight training, whether as a stand-alone device, or to augment or replace a conventional simulator, has gained significant attention in recent years.

Performance Evaluation of Multi-UAV System in Post-Disaster Application: Validated by HITL Simulator

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
This paper proposes an evaluation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) performance in the mapping of disaster-struck areas. Sendai city in Japan, which was struck by the Tohoku earthquake/tsunami disaster in 2011, was mapped using multi-heterogeneous UAV ...

Man-rated flight software for the F-8 DFBW program [PDF]

open access: yes
The design, implementation, and verification of the flight control software used in the F-8 DFBW program are discussed. Since the DFBW utilizes an Apollo computer and hardware, the procedures, controls, and basic management techniques employed are based ...

Light‐Induced Entropy for Secure Vision

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work realized a ternary true random number generator by exploiting stochastic traps emerging within multiple junction interfaces, and quantitatively validated the generation of high‐quality random numbers. Furthermore, it successfully demonstrated diverse applications, including AI‐resilient image security, thereby providing a valuable guide for ...

Role of the Recombination Zone in Organic Light‐Emitting Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the critical role of the recombination zone in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). We highlight that broadening the recombination zone in OLEDs based on emissive layers with balanced charge transport and high photoluminescence quantum yields provides a promising route toward achieving both long operational lifetime and high ...
